For them to be so many light years away, the light had to be travelling for so many years.

A light-year is a measure of distance, not time.

If you are asking why some people believe that the universe is only 6,000 years old when science claims it is millions and millions of years old, then I would say that some people take the Bible literally and choose to try to date the age of the earth based on it. This is not so crazy since science is simply what we as humans believe to be true based on our limited knowledge. The "facts" of science are often modified or even erased by new discovery.

God created the heavens and the Earth, in Genesis 1:1.
The Earth "became" void and without form, Genesis 1:2.
The Earth and the universe was already made when Genesis 1:2.
Genesis 1:2 was when God prepared the Earth for human flesh.
Between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2 was the time of the dinosaurs, millions and billions of years apart.

Think about it.

I Believe that the EARTH is 4 to 5 Billion year's old.
I Believe that GOD made a Contract with Mankind, through Adam, bout' 6,000 year's ago.
Read first Chapter of Ecclesiastes, thing's get Forgotten. Only take's bout' a Million year's to Erase a Generation, dosen't it? Look at Rome after a few thousand year's. Ditto...........

The only one I have heard say that is YOU.. Most people know that the term "day" in Genesis is a period of creation not a 24 hour day.. Later in the same book it says "In the day God created the heavens and the earth.." These days were divisions of the creation process. What difference does it really make how long it took. The importance is that God did it..

really? fact? ok, how about this: Dinosaurs never lived, the earth was created with their fossils. Light from other galaxies and stars was created at the same time as the stars, at the proper distance from earth.
Many things were created to confound the wise.
