I don't really care, but they might if I didn't say anything. I do think that it isn't my place to "remind them"

My wife called me at about 5:30 while I was on the way home and told me she had forgotten this morning that it was my birthday and she felt really bad. She was a little upset that I hadn't said anything. I told her not to worry about it. She didn't want me to think they didn't love me, etc. We had a nice supper at home, and the kids all colored franticly to make some birthday card and pictures. I did have a good birthday. It isn't about getting stuff, but being with those you love and those that love you. I didn't want them to be upset, so I wasn't sure what to do. In the end, it all worked out. Thanks for the advice, and the friendly birthday wishes.

Here is my opinion, especially, if you think, that the family forgot.

Say to your wife, if you are at work, right before you get off the phone, something like;

I can't wait to get home this evening. I know you have something planned, you have all been so secretive.

If she says, huh (like dubious to the fact it is your bday) then what are you talking about, say back,
You know the BIG 3 4 (insert your bday # of course) then say, oops I really got to go, call you back later.

Then let it go..perhaps this hint will help.

IT also helps if you ask if she needs you to come home a little later than usual. stuff like that
little hints.. and leave it at that.

Sometimes if people have a lot going on in their lives that is stressful, even the obvious can be overlooked.
Good Luck! and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

First of all, screw the "it isn't my place to remind anyone" bit. If you don't remind me, and they DO forget, you're going to be sulking for a month. It will also grate on your nerves until a few weeks/months later that it boils and you blow up in your wife's face over it.

Simple, you go up to your wife and playfully say "So, where are we going to eat for my Birthday?"

This statement is non-threatening and well, who doesn't like to go out for dinner once in a while? It's a gentle reminder. It will make you feel better, because you're obviously feeling something or you wouldn't have asked someone else's opinion. It will also make her feel better that you don't think she's forgotten you.

Well, it seems to me that if you really "don't really care", then you wouldn't be at all tempted to say anything. And, you're right. It's not your place to remind them that it's your birthday. If they cared, they'd let you know that they remembered. If I were you, I'd take myself out to dinner, have a few drinks, stay out late as hell, get them all worried. Then, when they ask me where I've been, I'd tell them "I was out celebrating my birthday. Goodnight." I bet the looks on their faces will be a great present.

My best suggestion is to take the family out to dinner at a place that sings to birthday people. At some point, privately let the waiter know that it is your birthday. Then, you aren't directly reminding them.

Happy Birthday!!

Yes, I think so..
They will feel terrible if you say nothing. Maybe you could start singing "Happy Birthday to Me" softly to yourself while you are doing something near them and watch their reaction. If they pay no attention and secretly smile, they might have something planned.., but if there is a horrified "Oh my God, your birthday.. !" then it will give them a chance right now to try and make it up to you, or a mad dash to obtain a present etc..

Anyway Happy Birthday for today...!

Hi, You better let it slide for now. Big surprises could be in store for you. I had this happen to me also. I was pretty down that everybody forgot my birthday. I made dinner. Well it all went in the fridge cause they took me out. Happy Birthday!!

Let it slide dude. Either they are planning a party or they really screwed up. You could use the points later on when something important to them gets overlooked and you are over the barrel.

Birthdays are way overrated and I do wish everyone would forget mine.

Happy Birthday! I would say something if they don't bring it up later, I bet they are waiting to surprise you or are pretending they forgot. I never understood why people play this trick, it sucks? Hope you have a great day!
