Yes, the civil rights was birthed out the the Gospel among other religions.
Jesus does teach about how we are to treat our fellow man.
Martin King did not fall for anyting. He truly believe in his Christian heritage and wanted to do everything in the name of Jesus
People like Ghandi and Thorua and other did attribute Civil right to their religion.
Hope this works for you

I am not a christian but I do know from reading many things that Jesus did not write any gospels and some of the ideas attributed to Jesus did support the underdog, the disenfranchised and the poor.
And there were some black people in the area were Jesus lived and preached. Africa wasn't that far away.
When you remove the Jesus was divine stuff, he did have some pretty remarkable ideas for his time if they were indeed his.
From what I know Jesus was killed because he was a rabble rouser. And the Jewish and Roman leaders punished him for rattling the status quo. Jesus also advocated non violence. OOh, did Jesus learn that when he was in the far east studying?
Martin Luthur King threatened the status quo during the civil rights movement so someone had him killed.

He was a great man, but he was wrong about this assertion just as most of us are mistaken about a great many things. First of all, Jesus didn't write us a gospel, at least one that has survived. There are 4 gospels of unknown authorship that are accepted by the modern church all of which were written a generation or two after the events attributed to Jesus' life. There are several other gospels from this period not accepted as cannon by most mainstream Christians. Christians for centuries just like Muslims have had laws against taking their fellow believers into bondage. They were required to look outside the faith to find the slaves. That is why Christians went to Africa to capture "heathen" black people, kidnap them, and bring to the new world as slaves. They also enslaved some native Americans too, although they usually just followed the example of the book of Joshua and exterminated these unbelievers.

Those in the bible who realized that Jesus believed in the righteousness and equality of the world - good human rights.
Those who were stuck in the old law and starting churches and manipulating people into Christianity - bad religion.
Sorry, the bible is full of contradictory opinions. It was not put together by God. If you cannot see the animosity between Paul and the other apostles over teaching law and teaching grace, then you are blinded by your religion.
It is a compilation of letters from people to people and it was decided by rulers with agendas what would be destroyed and what would be allowed to stay. And what was allowed to stay got translated and changed and arranged into a book. Think you have the whole picture from the scraps?

In alot of ways I think he was right
one example before King would be Wilberforce an English evangelical who fought his whole life to end slavery in England and motivated by the scriptures
God is no respector of persons and does not show favoritism, he expects the rich and poor to have the same standards of justice and all men are made in His image. His method of loving non violent protest was Biblical
And in some ways it can be abused, overfocusing on your rights and wrongs done you is not necessarily Biblical and the Biblical focus should still be on love and fogivement

Hey for some segments of our society, it is either addiction to crack or addiction to Christ.
Furthermore, you can sometimes do the right thing for the wrong reasons. Happens all the time. The Mayans could predict eclipses with great accuracy based on the assumption that the sun orbited the earth. Does that mean we are in a geocentric "solar" system? uhhhhhhhh, no!

well I think that he was misguided/wrong as christianity is not the true religon of Black people.(im black by the way). His arguement therefore was a little weak. Although, He did help the campaign, I think there were other Black and white people alike who did more for the cause.

Many of the greatest minds of our time have been fooled by the bible. Christianity has had thousands of years of practice making people believe in magic though so yours is not a fair question.

Absolutely not. There are thousands of alternate beliefs that accept civil rights and predate the Bible. The Bible condones slavery.
