Most veterinarians will clip the claws for free. As long as this is kept up every couple months the cat will do no damage. You can clip them yourself if the cat will let you. It's great, our cat got to keep his claws but can't tear anything up with them.

Let her know that declawing is absolutely unnecessary, and very cruel. It not only involves removal of the nail, it actually involves the complete amputation of the first digits! This drastic surgery is unnecessary, and shouldn't even be considered at all. Get a spray that detracts cats and dogs from things that you want to protect, and spray it on those things. Also, simple behavioural training is usually sufficient. Each time the cat looks set on clawing at something it's not supposed to, shoo it away firmly. Get a scratching post, and train the cat by bringing it to the post, and gently rubbing its paws over it, so it can feel for itself what the post is for. Everytime you see the cat using the scratching post, reward with praises and kitty treats to reinforce acceptable behaviour. This will take some time, but cats are naturally extremely intelligent creatures, with a high level of learning abilities. Tell you Mum that declawing is NOT the solution. In fact, it not only increases the risk of death from infection, a lot of declawed cats have also been known to avoid using the litter box, which only compounds a previously non-existent problem.
If the vet your Mum is consulting is pro-declawing, she's probably going to the wrong one. Make an appointment for her to seek a second opinion from a properly certified vet who doesn't believe in declawing.
I feel for your cat. Please do everything in your power to ensure it doesn't go through such a cruel and unnecessary torture.
I wish you the best of luck.

As long as she is an inside cat I don't really see anything wrong with it but only if the cat is still young. I declawed my cat when she was a kitten and they heal just fine. Vets dont completely declaw them, only the front claws. Your cat won't even remember mine doesn't seem too. I have another cat who isn't declawed and he is constantly ripping up the carpet. So you decide what you would prefer.

ok to declaw a cat you dont take there teeth u dumbass, if your cat is a indoor cat it need to be done it wiil mass up the couchs, chairs ext...but you can keep thr back claws so if it got into a fight a can fight back, my cat is declawed and it was an outdoor cat for 6 months, and it would get soo high in the trees, i didnt think it could do that with back claws. and yes they can defend themselfs very well, if you get them declawed but only in the front you will see how they will start to use the back claws much more, they will lay on there backs and kick with there back feet sooo fast,my cat took a 100lbs, dog down, the back legs become soo strong,

The cat needs it's claws to be able to live a normal life. It needs them to climb trees and things, to aid it's balance and to escape from predators.

De-clawing is cruel. Ask her to give the cat away to an animal lover rather than cause it such distress.

Very few people get scratched by cats and then it is nver serious. Furniture can be damaged but that should have been considered before getting the cat.

How about volunterring to have all your finger and toenails removed in sympathy and asking your mother to do the same?!!!

the ingredient you would possibly want to be wondering about at present must be what ought to have befell in case you had instructed your dad you probably did not favor to get the cat declawed. ought to he have killed it? ought to he have given it away? ought to it were worse for the cat to be deserted or killed than to be declawed? You were 14. although in case you had researched declawing and requested your dad to no longer get it executed, he's the figure. He had the spectacular administration. he's the guy who in all probability drove the cat to the vet and paid for the technique, no longer you. because the purely man or woman contained in the issue, the cat's properly-being is ultimately his responsibility. definite, it ought to were extra ideal once you've researched declawing and requested your dad to no longer get it executed. that is a merciless and unnecessary technique. yet you've been a toddler and ought to no longer truly be anticipated to imagine of something like that. there is also no make certain that your dad ought to have listened to you and agreed to save the cat with it is claws intact. on the top of the day, do not beat your self up too a lot. you've discovered an significant lesson and see you later as your cat isn't have any issues because of the surgical treatment, he may be ok. purely make certain you save him interior purely so he's possibility-free. It truly purely feels like your dad feels undesirable about the declawing and is making an attempt in charge you. solid success.

You are right, it is cruel. They remove the last toe joint and pretty much deform the cat's paws. Good for you for buying soft paws and showing her humane articles.

You could also try buying some nail clippers and showing her that it is very easy to keep the claws trimmed. We trim out cats' claws about once a month (one person holds, the other clips) and that works fine.

It's not only cruel but dangerous as your cat won't be able to defend herself in a fight or climb a tree to escape a dog.

If the cat is clawing on furniture, get your mother to buy solution in the pet shop to spray on the furniture to stop this and also buy the cat a scratching post. Barring that, have the vets round off the cat's claws instead of out-right de-clawing her so that way she can't really scratch much but she can still defend herself.

In the SPCA bilaws we are not allowed to declaw cats because it is there only defense mechanism. When declawing they actually remove up to the first joint in the cats paw not just the claw itself.
