It's a very nice example of "ignorance". What we don't understand, is evil and bad.

I don't think you're an eviler than anyone else. The Bible says "All have sinned" (Rom 3:23) and guess what, that means "all." I'm a born-again Bible believing Christian and I'm not afraid of people like you, like some Christians are. I realize that not all people who claim to be witches are people who are intentionally worshiping Satan (and some are), but this is what people who haven't studied Wicca believe. I am in no means an expert on Wicca, but I have done some research.
In my experience, the few people I've met who claim Wicca do it for a few reasons:
1. They want to freak people out
2. They are looking for power
3. They are nature-worshipers
Bottom line, people think that you're evil because they don't know much about humanity in general. Everyone's evil, just some of us are forgiven.

People believe what they don't understand must be evil. Some churches teach that Wicca is evil. I am Wicca as well. People confused me for a long time with my friend which was a satanist. They looked at our necklaces. Mine with the pentacle and his with the satanist. They looked similar. Since they don't try to understand our religion. They misunderstand the religion. People watch too much television movies like The Craft. It doesn't give them a good imagine of the religion.

Because anything out of the ordinary is scary to most people, and because as soon as a child hits the ground it is bombarded by religion. We are taught from day one about God and the bible. I'm not saying I dont believ in God, its only that I beleive in so much more also. There is more to life than the bible and christianity. Wicca is not evil, it has nothing at all to do with the devil. Don't let people chastize you for being who you are, which is a person intouch with herself and nature, not just something she may have read once. Blessed be.

Because most people don't know anything about Wicca and things they don't know about scare them. Of course it doesn't help when you look at how history treated us, ie. Spanish Inquisition, Salem Witch Hunts. or when you look to how in the 70's Satanist would tell everyone they were Witches to avoid trouble, or when you look to most movies where the evil was a witch.
I hope that in time people might open their eyes to the fact that we are not out to harm anyone and only want to help the Mother Earth heal. For starters I would love to see Scott Cunningham's book, "The Truth About Witchcraft Today" in every hotel room right next to that other book.
Merry Met and Blessed Be

I think there are a lot of reasons that people think of Wicca as evil, or Satanism. I think that the pentagram and the pentacle look a lot alike and also people are just ignorant and don't want to see anything but their religion. They think that any other religion is evil, not only Wicca. This is just the one that you hear most about.

There's nothing wrong with being Wiccan. All religions are connected, it's just a matter of which one you choose. I chose Christianity, and one of my friends chose Buddism. Wiccan runs in my family, but that's just not my path. Besides. Wiccan is big on treating people like you want to be treated. Everything you do comes back to you times three. I like the idea of Wicca, but to me, another just appealed better. THERE IS NOTHING EVIL ABOUT WICCA! It's a perfectly good practice ^-^ And never let anyone tell you otherwise.

Your name says it all.Christianity is not easy.It never was and was not meant to be.Well it should be but satan will not allow that.Your life should be pretty easy up to a point.Satan does not bother those he already has in his pocket. You may not be evil but what you are doing is evil in the eye of the Lord.Someone on Yahoo once said that her sister had troubles when she was a christian and now she is wiccan things are much better. To me that means that satan has won and does not bother her with trail and tribulations any more. Her soul is lost to God unless she returns to His Hands. You don`t need to be evil to be lost.Nobody can save your soul except Jesus Christ The Son of God.Not allah or Mary or John Smith or your mother.

Because they are ignorant of the origins and practices of Wicca. Plus, movies always link witches and "satan".
Plus, Christian tend to think of anything outside of their own religion as evil or of the devil.
but honey, you're not helping by picking an ID like that...
perhaps you are enjoying the shock value or noteriety?

People fear those things they do not understand. And in this case, they prefer to remain ignorant about it rather than actually Read about it. If they were to actually do a little study into it themselves, they might have a decent argument. But as it stands, they look like little kids screaming at others saying how "that's bad cause mommy said so" without really knowing what the hell it is to begin with.

Christians believe in two 'deities' -- God and Satan. If, as far as they are concerned, you are not following their (version of) God, and their holy book, they believe that the only option must be that you are cohorting with Satan. Not to mention the stereotyping of witches in the media as evil women who worship Satan. It all stems back to the Christian church and the witch hunts. In an effort to eradicate all witches, pagans, wise women, healers, etc. to convert everyone to their religion they spread lies about us, what we are about, what god(s) we worship (or don't), and what we do. Those lies and falsities have, unfortunately, carried over into present times and old habits die hard. So, unfortunately most of the population has yet to realize how much of what we see in popular media about witches is incorrect.
All you can do is you best to try and educate them to the truth!
Blessings and Light!
