Ok, lets shot for smaller goals first. Lets shot for say 5 or 10 pounds at first and work towards the 50 pounds you wish to lose. You need to get out and walk, bike and exercise. Ask your mom to have a personal trainer work with you.

You should weigh approximately 125-130 pounds at 5 ft. 6 in. tall. That's fairly tall for the fifth grade, but you don't mention if you are male or female. There is really only one way to lose weight. Don't eat so much and exercise more. However, if you have a thyroid problem you might need medication to speed your metabolism. Thyroid problems of this type however, are rare. Ask your parents to take you to the doctor so you can discuss it with him or her. Also, cut out things like Coca Cola (unless it's diet variety), potato chips, french fries, cookies and all that stuff. Eat fresh fruits, vegetables, lean meats, and drink a lot of water. Walk wherever you go (at least as much as you can). Ignore the kids in your class. They are at an age where they like to tease and some people are just plain nasty. Lose the weight and I'll bet other kids will be congratulating you. Some will always be mean. Ignore the mean ones. They will one day face problems too. Good luck!

If you are more interested in losing weight than gaining muscle, only exercise up to a point where you would still be able to carry out a conversation, then take a quick break until you've got your breath back then start again. But gaining one lb of muscle can help you burn 50% more calories in a day.
Running and jump-roping are both good ways to exercise. I'm not sure how many calories running burns in a half hour, but jump-roping burns 300 in a halfhour.
Don't try any diets without talking to your parents and your doctor and don't become anorexic or bullemic.
Seeing as you are 5'6 and only in 5th (I'm four inches shorter and in 11th grade!)grade it could be a thyroid problem. Talking to your doctor might help as well.
Good luck Sam!

ok, first be calm. The most important thing to realize is that you're ok. I too was picked on and teased because of my weight and it dosen't go away quickly.
First, go see a doctor and ask for a diet. Your doctor can help you on your goals for being thinner.
Don't try this yourself. Go see a Doctor. You are at the point when doing it yourself is not going to be successful.
Cut down on your food intake
No sweets of any kind, sugar can make you ballon.
Exercise! When I say exercise don't try and run a marathon, go for a walk every day in your neighborhood. Do some kind of exercise every morning and everynight. Nothing hard. Just something that get your heart rate going.
Ask your parents for help, but first see a doctor.
I wish you the best of luck

Sam, you need to go see a nutritionist. Get them to set you up on a diet and exercise program specifically designed for you. Just remember it is not safe to loose all that weight quickly. It can be very bad for your health, possibly deadly.
Proper Diet and Exercise is the only way to go. Get out from in front of that TV or Computer and go outside. Walk, run, ride your bike. Any kind of exercise daily will be fine. And eat smaller portions. Don't weigh everyday. Weigh yourself every week or two. Keep a journal of it. You and your class mates will be shocked at the end of one year.

talk to your parents and have them take you to the doctor. make sure that your horomones are ok for your age. If they are, it is the food you eat. no chips, cupcakes or other fatty food. run alot at recess and drink water instead of juice, or soda. Drink milk only once a day.
I was chubby in the fifth grade and got teased too. Just remember you will grow up and that will not matter. I know it is hard but be strong for yourself. When I hit high school, for some reason all of the weight came off. It could just be part of your body type too until you change.
Talk to your mom about it.

Ok at 5'6'' you are overweight at 197lbs, but there is hope. What do you like to do, that involves moving around? You need to start out very light on your exercise. You may be overweight due to some other problem within your body. You should have a doctor check your heart, blood pressure, cholesterol, at the minimum, and make sure that you are healthy enough to begin being active.
After seeing your doctor, take that activity that you like to do, and do it everyday for atleast 30 minutes without stopping. Each day 30 minutes will seem shorter and shorter. When 30 minutes doesn't seem like anything at all, then move up to doing that activity for 1 hour a day. 1 hour a day will soon feel like nothing at all, and when that happens, weigh yourself, you will be very shocked at how much weight you have lost, and how great you feel. Your body will seem different to you.
But be careful not to weigh yourself, everyday, or even every week, the scale is not your friend, while you are trying to lose weight! You will lose weight, which is mostly going to be water, but at the same time, because you are being active, you will tone muscles in your body, and these muscles do weigh more than fat and water. So your scale may drop 15lbs, but the very next time you get on it, it may show an increase of 2-5lbs, because you toned up muscles that were once small.
You also need to be sure are eating right. Stop eating 2-3 hours before you lay down to go to sleep. You need to eat within the first 15-30 minutes after you wake up in the morning. Try to eat as best as you can, and try to put onto your plate, what you can fit into two fists. If your plate has more food on it, than what can fit into two fists, you are eating too much at one time.
This is not going to be easy. I was teased in school too for being heavy, from 1st grade - 10th grade. After 10th grade, kids finally stop teasing, because they realize it's not COOL, it's MEAN, and from there things got better for me. I still needed to lose weight, and without having to hear them make fun of me anymore, I could do a better job at focusing on eating better. By graduation from High School I had slimmed down. But it took from 10th grade through 12th grade to get me there.
If you ever need to talk about weight, I will be a pen pal, if you'd like one. We won't discuss our names or anything, but I could be an ear to listen to what you are going through, because I have been there myself. shawnababy82@yahoo.com

You still have no clue how a person gets fat? Do you think it might be from shoving food into your face? Do you think it might be from a lack of exercise? How old will you have to be before you figure that out? Right now you're carrying around the equilivent of 2 preschoolers in blubber. You might want to do something about that if you want to have anything close to a decent life, and stop complaining that's it's a mystery of what to do.

Wow, you should lose about seventy pounds. Try to avoid junk food and exercise more. Don't watch TV, and help your mother do all the chores at home. You should be able to become of a normal size by ninth grade.
