My daughter, who is 9 years old, had a tonsillectomy and adnoidectomy a week ago today. She is still in a lot of pain and is still on pain medication. She has lost 10 pounds so far and her dad and I are very worried. I cannot get her to eat very much at all, mostly Jello. She also has Asperger's Syndrome and sensory integration issues, so I think that is making this much worse. Can anyone give me some advice relevant to our unique situation?

i had it done when i was 29. The dr gave me liquid pain meds (tylenol 3 ). I would dose on that about 45 before I tried to eat. -- 10 in a week is a lot - make sure your daughter is having ALOT of liquids. popcicles , juice , water w/ sugar, gatoraide. ---- try the ensure shakes , carnation instant breakfast or slim fast (lot of good stuff in the shakes). --- it will take about a solid week before you want to eat. My first solid food was a white castle that I tore up and dropped in to beef broth. ------ I hope that helped.

I had my tonsils out when I was 13 and i could eat something like hot chicken broth right away. It took a good couple weeks to be able to eat normally again. For thanksgiving which was about a week after surgery my family ground up my turkey and I could eat it fine like that. Most people say that cold foods/drinks/ or popsicles will soothe the throat better but not for me. Cold irritated it and warmer liquids helped better. My advice would be to get a food grinder (maybe something they use for babys) and see if that works!
