How about Big Brother (the Party) in the novel "1984" watching your every movement and listening to your conversations to search out enemies of the Party, and President Bush listening in on people's personal phone calls in search of terrorists of the State?

History does not repeat itself per se, rather events seem to follow patterns based on geographic characteristics, cultures, etc.

The Gulf War example demonstrates that unresolved situations often spark "repetitions" of previous events in an effort to more fully resolve them (another good example is the series of "crusades" in the middle ages whose stated goal was the liberation of the "Holy Land" from Muslim control). As the First Crusade proved unsuccessful long term, another was called. (this is also an example of abuse of power by men involved in upper levels of Christendom at the time--abuse of power was one of many reasons for the Reformation, which saw breaks from the Roman Catholic Church repeating in quick succession).

History doesn't repeat itself!

It is only people who make History Repeat Itself!

'It's history' is the modern way of saying it is past , dead & gone & has no present relevance. (Literature)

People are less inventive. They do the same mistakes over & over again. All the Wars are shining doleful examples. Why people fight each other & Countries Fight each other? This is where History is made / forced to repeat. They don't know how to settle their differences other than by war.

As History has no life, energy or force of CHANGING itself, there is nothing left for it to make its presence felt other than REPEATING itself!.
