Where do you get your animals? Do you get them from the humane society, a rescue, pet shop, breeder, or a stray?

A pat on the back for all those people who get their animals from the humane society , the rescue or strays.

Also people who got them from the rest of the places listed you did a good deed.

I adopted my cat from a rescue shelter, paid $100.00 , which included his shots, and neutured. I also recieved veternarian certificate for his upcoming shots. The people who work at these rescue shelters take very good care of the animals , and give them lots of love until they find someone who will also continue to give them good care and love . I love my Printzee.

I've gotten most of mine from the local Humane Society. One came from the local Petsmart - it was a cat from an adjacent county's HumaSociety. One dog was a stray in the neighborhood. One dog was from a rescue group.
I would NEVER get an animal from a breeder. There are WAY too many puppy mills and WAY too much inbreeding used by breeders. The animals are treated at breeders - they are just "things" used to get the puppies or kittens to sell. They have NO life outside their cages - don't know how to interact with other animals or people and in many cases, the cages are not kept clean.
If you were to want to get an animal from a breeder. I would ask them the name of the vet they use, and talk to the vet. Visit the place where the animals are kept. There are good breeders out there, you just really have to be very careful who you are dealing with.

I guess you could say that I got my animals from almost all of the above. I adopted my 10 year old male beagle from a breeder (well, at least my parents did). I found my 2 year old female walking around at a local car wash. she was only 5 weeks old and I didn't have the heart to leave her there in the 102 degree heat. I really didn't want to keep her, but after awhile I couldn't let her go. recently, I adopted a 4 month old male kitten from my local SPCA. he really needed a loving home and all of the other animals that are there do as well. from now on, that's where I intend to get ALL my future pets from!!!!

I have 5 cats currently. One came from an orphaned litter through my vet (17 yrs old), one came from a rescue by my friend's of a feral cat's litter (2 yrs old), one I adopted through a want ad (16 yrs old), and two were rescued from my neighborhood (approximately 11-15 yrs old, we think). I would never go to a breeder, btw, as there are too many in rescue that need our help.

I have gotten almost all my pets from shelters. (the others were strays that I got from friends or family). Some shelters euthanize animals, and some have a no-kill policy. I always go to the shelters that do euthanize first, so I feel like I have really saved a life. However, I donate money to the shelters with the no-kill rule.

SPCA, in my mind that's the best way to go. it makes you feel really good that you are helping your cat/kitten/other animal out by giving them a nice home and lots of love. I adopted 2 kittens from our local spca back in november and turns out that they were pretty sick and I know I saved their lives. I'm pretty certain that the one would have been dead a long time ago if I didn't adopt them.

One of my cats was a stray who wandered in one day. A couple years after she came, I heard there was woman who had died with 80+ cats in her house, and her son just threw them out in the wild, rather deal with them. Since the timing is right, and my cat was house trained, and very friendly from the start, I think that's where she came from. I just hope most of the rest of the kitties came to a good end, too.

My other cat was a kitten at the horse farm my sister worked at. He was so sweet and cute, she brought him home.

I have 3 cats and we have gotten all of them from the humane society. We even adopted 2 older cats since they never seem to be adopted and would have been put down. I donate to the no kill shelters but will only adopt from the shelters that will put an animal down.

Most of the time I get everyone stray animals around. My yard must have animal pound sign in the yard. Also I go to breeders for dogs like my choc. lab. and a shih-tza puppy. As long as you love the pet it doesn't really matter where it came from.

If you want a purebred, go to a reliable breeder, NOT to a pet store, they get their animals from cruel puppy mills. Three of our cats were strays and two were adopted from folks who could no longer keep them.

I adopted one of my cats from a cat rescue organization.

The other one came when I saw a "free kittens" sign in front of somebody's house and went to take a look. I ended up with the runt of the litter (now a gorgeous 13 lb male) because I felt sorry for him! He was 1.33 lbs. with worms and ear mites when I first got him.
