The reason why Lead is poisonous is because it binds to your red blood cells causing anemia. Your tissue cells do not get the oxygen that they need to get, and waste does not get picked up, so there is a build up causing edema, and it affects your nervous system. Your skin requires oxygen, it does not get it from the outside, it gets it thru the blood. Normal blood has iron(Fe), and lead poisoning replaces the (Fe) with (Pb), leaving no room for the oxygen to bind to the hemaglobin (blood).
