A cooked sausage that consists of finely ground pork and liver combined with onions and seasoning, which is formed into a round soft-textured sausage. This type of sausage is also known as Liver Sausage. Liverwurst that has been smoked after cooking or has been combined with smoked meat, such as bacon, is called Braunschweiger.

Reminds me of my dad, he loved liverwurst. Have to have it on good pumpernickel bread, with a thin spread of butter, thin spread of brown mustard and thinly sliced onions and good crisp garlicky kosher dill on the side. Cheers
