Your family member has joined some religion and you decided to research their new found religion. You discover the founder was a con artist and all their "evidence" has been falsefied. Do you tell them that they had made a mistake? Or do you think that maybe that your religion may not be perfect either and if they are happy, it is ok.

So long as they are not giving the con artist all their money and possessions I would let things be. Religion can come between friends and family if you let it. Just let them be happy and realize that all religions have their faults, even yours.

But, if they were giving them money and their possessions like some cult leader, I would go to them and tell them that you want to talk to them about this specific guy (con artist/religious leader) Show them what you've found out but tell them you are not passing judgment on their beliefs. Tell them they can believe whatever they want but you couldn't let them pay this guy unless they had all the facts. If they start to get pissed at you then back off right away.

I would discuss the religion with them... but I wouldn't just charge in and tell them they made a mistake and start throwin proof at them. If they continue in it even after the discussions, then that's their choice.

But, so long as they aren't hurting themselves or others (like giving up their life savings so they can wear a toga in a commune while their family is losing the house) then I really don't care if they think Peter Pan created the world and is deserving of worship.

If I had proof - actual proof - that the leader was a con and that the "evidence" wasn't real, I'd try to talk to them about it and ask them what they thought about it and why, even knowing this, they would still want to follow that religion.

But unless it was self-destructive or harmful of others, I probably wouldn't push on it. If it gives them a sense of peace and it's not hurting them or anyone else, it isn't a problem.

If the new religion that a family member has found is false then yes you should intervene.

It really depends on what they are believing and what your personal religious beliefs are.

For example, if you're a Christian and you truly believe that others that don't share your belief that Jesus is the only way to heaven -- and they will end up in eternal damnation and torture if they don't -- then it's probably a good idea to intervene (if you truly believe in what you're supposed to believe).

Personally, if I saw a family member that I cared about getting involved in satanic or demon worship, I would most certainly intervene.

The most strategic plan of Satan is to diminish the power of God, to defame and degrade the power of Jesus Christ, and to stop anyone who may spread the gospel of Christ.

Anything that is of God is not born of confusion. Anything that is evil will cause confusion, deception, lies, and cunning temptations covered in just enough truth to make them seem plausible.

Acts 4:12 This is the only way to salvation. One Way--Jesus Christ. Acts 4:12 says, "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name given under heaven by which we must be saved."

No Allah, not Buddah, not Muhammad, not Zeus, not any other name, but Jesus Christ.

To God be the Glory, In Jesus Name!

Maybe you want to be part of this religion as well? We all feel jealous from time to time, but it's not our emotions that defines us, it's how we act on them. For example, the other day my girlfriend pissed me off. She blamed me for a screw up that was someone elses fault whom she liked. Since I was involved, she blamed me. She wouldn't listen to any explaination, and totally ignored the proof I offered her--and I had a witness! My first emotion was great anger, and how I could really screw her(and PIITB). But I knew that was wrong and would have make me as bad as her. So I let it go. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't easy--it was like a fire raging inside me; and i still have bad feelings everytime I see her. But I know in time they will fade...then I'll have something to be proud of...very proud of.

I did, but not because I wanted to. I asked questions like, "why is it that christians can speak in tongues and not other religion" and why is it that Jesus showed his face back then and he hasn't yet now. And how we are going to believe in him if there is so many lies now. I got a lot of questions and pretty much she said she didnt know. She has been a christian since 1997.

Good luck. Unless you operate very quickly the person will be stuck in the cult for a long time. Cults like this are very clever at brainwashing participants and cutting them off from the real world.

Yes, but you have to do it the right way. Be prepared, rehearse in advance, know what you're going to say, have reference material ready and do not approach the topic with any antagonism. Get the point across that you aree doing this beacuse you think it's in the best interests of that person.

Be calm, be prepared, be kind.
