highlights-add light to your hair, usually on the top of your head and around your crown, in a shade lighter than your own.

lowlights-add depth to your hair, usually on the bottom of your hair, in a shade darker than your own.

both look amazing.

Highlights involve using a dye that is a few to several degrees lighter than your base colour.

Lowlights are applied in the same manor, but are a few to several degrees darker than your base colour.

Mixing the two types gives you the appearance of more body yet keeping the look natural so you don't end up with the blond "wormy" look from your highlights.

These can be done in a natural way keeping in the same tones or you can be more dramatic and have different tones.

The last time I had it done, I had a chestnut base, blonde and red highlights and a darker red and black lowlights.....I go for dramatic...lol....but it doesn't have to be.

Hope this helps....Good Luck!

Highlights are streaks that are lighter than your natural color, and lowlights are streaks darker than your natural color.

HIGHLIGHTS ADDS LIGHTER COLOR TO YOUR HAIR AND SOMETIMES WHEN YOU HIGHLIGHT YOUR HAIR THROUGH A CAP INSTEAD OF FOILING IT YOU HAVE TO GO BACK AND DO LOWLITES BECAUSE YOUR ENTIRE HEAD ENDS UP ALL HIGHLITED AND LOWLITES IS SIMPLY WHEN YOU ADD A DARKER COLOR TO GET RID OF ALL THE LIGHTER COLOR.
