implanted inside by his shoulder blade. I know that it's like a shot when they put one in, and it has a number and the owners personal information with that particular number. but I was just wandering, how does all of this work? what's the microchip look like (if it looks like anything). I think that this is really neat for my kitten to have. I was just curious on how it stays inside him though and stuff like that. any suggestions? thanx!

It is the size of a grain of rice and has the number encoded on it. When scanned, the number comes up and if called, the registry will contact the owner.
Sometimes they can migrate under the skin, but alomst all will stay in place.
It stays inside him because it is under the skin.
They are pretty simple.

Yes it is done by a "shot". The needle is pretty large, but it causes no problems. I just recently did a litter of 8 week old Newfies.

The chip itself does NOT hold any other information than the number. The registry hold the other information. The only thing you get from scanning the pet is a number.

A microchip is like an id for pets. It holds infomation about the owner, the date it was adopted and the address. In case it gets lost, they can easily return the cat to you. In the same manner as identifying people - the chip functions the same way for pets since pets don't know how to use an ID and collars can be stolen or lost. Its just the size of a grain of rice, even smaller and its injected into the skin. Your pet won't feel any pain from it if that's worrying you.

The microchip is encapsulated and looks like a teeny weeny little pill (but smaller). It has the information in it and they hold a special device over the area and it reads the information from the chip - kind of like those Star WArs toys that have the device that reads the chip and then talks and stuff. It stays inside his body the same way a really bad sliver does, only it is deeper and in a comfortable place so he doesn't feel it.

It looks like a tiny grain of rice. It's implanted just under the skin, given like a shot. It just stays there - it doesn't hurt the kitten, or move around. It's under the skin - and stays there.

you need to find the paperwork that they gave you with the kitten, because you need to register with the microchip people. when we got our kitten, same situation, and we had to register, cost about $15 but it's good for the cat's lifetime. then if they ever get lost, you call the "Petfind" people and the can locate him/her for you via GPS

well, when they put the chip in, if you lose your pet, it has all of the information of where you live and stuff, so it makes it easier to find the cat, oh and you can never abandon it, though i hope you would never think of it!!
