There really is no way to play the game without the CD.
However, there are patches out there that will patch the installation files and trick the software itself into thinking that the CD is inserted. However, this requires some files to be copied off of the CD. If you choose to do this (though it isn't legal) search for Sims 2 patch or Sims 2 crack - i forget which one will show you the results.

Game manufacturers force you to use the CDs for exactly that reason, so that you can't load the game and then give the CDs to all your friends to load. Some games have an option to load and run everything from the computer, but that would be an option during the installation of the game...if you didn't see it, then you are stuck. You can search the internet for a "no CD hack," not illeagal software really, just a way someone has found to play without the disc. Sims is very popular, so I'm sure there is one out there, I don't own the game though, so I've never looked.

It is possible; however, illegal cracks are needed to play a game without the CD. You CAN do it, you just shouldn't... If you go to a website that gives you files that let you play games without the CD, there is a crack in the file you download. It usually works once you replace the original file with the modified file, but the crack may contain a virus...so you can play your game but get your computer screwed.
For example, the instructions on a site may say, "replace this file with 'blah blah file name.exe'" or something like that.

Some people are into setting up a virtual drive and then they purchased the software gamescopy and it allows you to copy the cd to your hard drive which allows you to play the game without the cd. I know there is a trick to it and it is a great trick because it preserves the quality of the original disk.
Another thought is to just copy the disk using a excellent copy software for games and just use the copy.

The only way for all the Sims games to not play with the original game is getting an expansion pack and installing that.

Try to find it in the disk drive to where you save the program and try to start. If not, then you really need to use the disk....
