This is a fine gun for the turkey or waterfowler, the 3 1/2 inch shells give you a better pattern with more pellets at longer ranges. If you want it for deer hunting you're wasting your money. The do not make 3 1/2 inch slugs, so it's pointless. Any 12 gauge will take a deer down cleanly. If you want to increase your odds get a rifled barrel. I shoot an 2 3/4 inch 870 with a rifled barrel and Winchester polycore slugs and I can put every shot inside of a pie plate at 100 yards with open sights. Remember no matter what you do you have to sight a shotgun in to your slugs. I suggest you get the detachable "True Glow" sights that clamp to the vent rib if you do not want to by a rilfled barrel.

Brought down my first deer with this one. It was a good lung shot, the deer made it about 25 yards before it expired. I'd say that it worked.

I personally like that gun, and yes it can take down a deer, with a slug obviously.
