I assume by "problems" you are referring to errors in your registry. How do you know you have 142 problems? Did you use a software program to scan for registry errors? Programs which scan for registry errors should also be able to clean them as well.

When dealing with the registry, you have to be extra cautious. Deleting or changing a registry key(s) could result in your computer crashing or worse. If your PC has only 142 registry errors, that is pretty good - damn good. Normally, a PC has thousands of errors. Always backup your registry before making any changes to it. You can accomplish this by creating a system restore point.

There are a number of free registry cleaners. Unfortunately, they are not on par with commercially available registry cleaners. I tried several free registry cleaners and I have a preference for CCleaner (aka Crap Cleaner). CCleaner has a section devoted to scanning and removing obsolete and incorrect registry keys. CCleaner tends to be conservative (cautious) when it comes to scanning for registry errors, which is good. Other good choices are EasyCleaner, Regseeker and RegCleaner.

As for commercial products, the best I used is TuneUp Utilites 2006 and Iolo's System Mechanic 6 is a close second.

You can find all these items on Majorgeeks.com website. Go to www.majorgeeks.com and type in the program's name in the search box.
