in the morning or in the evening, middle of the day, it doesn't matter. I get plenty of sleep ususally (between 71/2 hours to 9 hours) and i am not sleepy before or after the car ride. As soon as I get in the car, my eyes burn so much i feel like closing them. Is there something I can do to combat this, like use eye drops or something?

It is not a new car. (1992 Mercury Cougar) I have had it for a couple of years. I just really started noticing it this last month or so. I cannot say for sure if it ever happened before or not. If it did happen in the past, I just assumed I was tired, because I was working 2 jobs. (Not anymore)

Sounds like your car is leaking carbon monoxide into the body. You'll need to get it checked out, since it can cause serious health risks to you. Try driving with all the windows open, and see if that helps.

I agree - it sounds like a minor allergy. Is it a new car? The "new car smell" that we all love - is actually a toxic blend of off-gasses from the upholstry, plastics and chemicals used in making the car. Does it help if the windows are open?
Try getting your filters cleaned/replaced. Clean out your car, top to bottom using natural cleaners (test @ home to make sure you don't react). Have the seats washed.
Get the inside atmosphere tested for carbon monoxide.
You deserve to breathe clean air! Get it checked out!

I am completely serious also, but you need to concentrate on blinking more. You may be like me in that I don't produce enough natural tearing, plus I wear contacts which makes the problem even worse. If you wear contacts also, you may want to change to something different (gas permeables or whatever your doctor thinks). I find myself "staring" too much and it is not until I do something, like sit in the car or something, that I recognize my eyes are dry and burning, or I finally blink, which also wakes me up to this reality.

You may also want to see if it is just your car, or everyone's car. You may need to clean your car, like your air filter or something. Just a thought.
