Love is the flame which, when it blazes,
consumes everything other than the Beloved.
The lover wields the sword of Nothingness
in order to dispatch all but God:
consider what remains after Nothing.
There remains but God: all the rest is gone.
Praise to you, O mighty Love, destroyer of all other "gods."

no, a quote doesn't have the power to do anything.

the goal of life, however, is for God to be our everything, as the quote implies. which actually, if actually practiced, would make life beautiful, not difficult. thanks for sharing, that's beautiful poetry.

If all but God is dispatched, how can there be love? If the flame of love consumes the lover and leaves only the beloved, how does love still exist? Love is relationship, not divine solipsism.

This isn't Abrahamic theism; it's Neoplatonism. "La ilaha ill Allah" does not mean that nothing but God exists!

i was presumptous enough to beleive that it was as clear and simple as it sound, superficially, back then, due to my ignorance.

However Jalaludin Rumi beleived in an Omnipotent God, Merciful and Forgiving. This is not the pantheistic ideal we are speaking of.On the contrary! And he was never neglectful of the ritualistic aspects of Islam even after his enlightenment, 5 daily prayers and stuff like that. So, this verse could be easily taken out of context by some to ( ironnically !) prove that God doesn't exist! but that is not so according to Rumi himself...........

God is love - 1 John 4:8
The love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us - Romans 5:8
Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? - 1 Corinthians 3:16
He must increase, but I must decrease - John 3:30

Through the Holy Spirit, Jesus now lives within all believers and seeks to live His life through us. As we take up our crosses daily, all that is of self and pride is burned out of our lives by the holy fire of God Who dwells within us. The more I die to self the more God can live through me. As God consumes all, I become nothing more than a container for His glory and love.

I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live, yet not I, but Christ lives in me, and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me - Galatians 2:20.

I can't answer this question as my answer would be too biased and opinionated. It would be contradictory to my religious beliefs and the situatiion that I am deeply involved in at the moment......
