cologne, watches are usually safe bets
i would really want something that i'm into, like for my hobbies
i would like fishing equipment, a golf club, car care equipment
guys also usually like to do stuff more than get stuff so tickets to a concert, sporting event, or mini vacation are always the best in my opinion and plus you get to spend money and come along and enjoy it with us. we also like a good steak dinner too

I got my boyfriend a Fossil watch for Valentine's Day and if I had a nickle for every day he wore that thing, I'd be a bagazillionaire. Guys like practical, clever, up-to-date things. Electronics are always a shoe-in. Just play on his interests. If he likes Chess at all, get him a really nice chess set. If he likes cars, take him to a car show and then out for a steak dinner. The more enthusiastic and thoughtful you are the higher the percentage gets for him liking it.

It depends more on the age but simple things make a great impact eg. a tie pin, a nice pen, a not so costly ring or you may spend a whole day with him allowing him to take you around as he wishes.

Sex. Guys love this as a present. Even better, present sex is where she will do something she would not normaly do, because it's a gift. He can live out a fantasy or such....best gift ever.
