You could ,but N.A.S.A. uses huge dish antennas as they need to track the polarizing of the signal . also. a dipole ant might if it had enough phased together and some means to tracking the phase of the signal. u may think the signal is horizontal but the effect of the ionization rotates the phase of the signal and in space there is no up or down it would be near impossible to get your ant in the right orientation.
