Physical mediumship, such as table tipping and floating trumpets et all, are to me the remnant of Victorian seances. Although I am a Spiritualist and promote the word of spirit as much as possible, I cannot see why spirit would be interested in floating an old brass horn around the room.
Mental mediumship is more believable when names, dates, anecdotes that only the deceased would know and stories about what the sitter had done that day are told by the medium. That to me is proof, not moving a table with wonky legs.
I know people who swear they have seen mediums transfigure into the passed over, but again I am sceptical about dim lighting etc.
As for me and my personal proof? I have visited my father on several occasions and he's been dead for 8 years!, I am in regular touch with my master guide who is my best friend, hardest taskmaster and ever loyal companion and I have seen the spirits of many much loved pets who pop in for a visit, time to time.
God bless them all and God bless you for keeping an open mind, that is what is important, even if you, as am I; somewhat sceptical about some "mediums" and their "miraculous" events.

It's not a scientific attitude to say "it's all rubbish" a priori, before you've exhaustively investigated the subject. My opinion, after a good deal of investigation, is that a great deal of it is rubbish, but some may not be; and further, that scientists do themselves a dissservice to dismiss anything without impartially examining the evidence. "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." Why couldn't it be true? It's a scientist's job to examine phenomena and attempt an account of them, not to decide what phenomena are intrinsically possible or impossible. And let me tell you -- when you get into it, there is some weird sh*t that goes on in this universe. Why should scientists, of all people, live in such a narrow world, and deny that there may be extraordinary phenomena waiting to be discovered and investigated? Ah yes -- because of paradigmatic thinking, hence the second link below.

i know people who do hold circles or seances as some call them ..
it has been known for spirit to move things etc but i am always sceptical about this table tilting , even if people don't realise they are doing it they may be subconsciously
so it is one thing i would dismiss as proof of spirit
however there are many other things that can and do happen that are just unexplainable that can only be accountable for spirit presence
not all mediums are fakes but many are so its finding the right ones with the right integrity and knowledge about spirits
and many of these mediums welcome sceptics and scientists to test all equipment before and after use

Most of us do. Table shaking effects can be produced with a device either installed on the table or on the "medium"s foot.
This page explains some of the other common tricks too:

Here is some of my life story. It may throw some light on this stuff.
At 7 years old I had a nervous condition. I had to spend 3 months in a couple of hospitals in England, and the doctor put me on Phenobarbitone. My parents were told I would be on this for the rest of my life. There have been several members of my family that have gone to Spiritualist meetings. An aunt went to one held by Harry Edwards, a famous spiritualist healer of that time. My parents and doctor were not aware of this. What they did see was a marked improvement in my condition. I was taken off of Phenobarbitone with no withdrawl symptoms and no evidence of the original condition. It was only afterwards that a letter from my aunt was received explaining what had happened.
After that time I had an "invisible friend." As I grew older I became more and more interested in the occult. I exhibited telepathy and precognition. I practised astral projection and self hypnosis. I could not form relationships with people and was victimised at school because I was "different." This continued into my worklife. By the age of 21 I felt I was, literally, going crazy. There is a condition experienced by some telepaths known as telepathic static. As you relax, so you become more sensitive and hear more voices. You reach a point where the noise prevents you from actually falling asleep. Had I been examined at this time, I would undoubtedly have been diagnosed as psychotic and schizophrenic.
About this time I attended a college learning about computer programming. Also there were two charismatic Christians. They told me my invisible friend was a demon. That evening, it kept telling me how it was going to kill me, how I would not survive the night. I walked out in front of cars on 2 occassions that night and got lost in an area that I knew well.
The following Sunday I received exorcism and was baptised in The Holy Spirit. My head felt as if was filled with a blue white light. I felt all the good bits of being drunk, but none of the bad ones. I did not care, but in a good way.
I did experience something like telepathy the following week, which worried me. And it took a while before I stopped astral projecting (it is very addictive). But, I have been following Christ for almost 30 years now and regret none of it.
The Holy Spirit has taken me over on a number of occasions to bring peace to potentially violent situations. I have seen patterns in my life stretching back several years where God has guided me down a particular path. My old emotional and spiritual scars are being healed by being among other Christians. Amongst my friends are several who were given a short time to live but, thanks to being healed by God, are still going strong to this day.
I see lives transformed, bonds of love and acceptance being built. I see the most unlikliest people becoming friends that would give their lives for each other. I see people being freed from addictions, some overnight. I know of people who have seen or heard angels, some have even been rescued from physical harm by them. I know of violent people that have become very loving people. Wealthy people that have given everything away for the sake of others.
All this is by the Grace of God The Father, the redemptive power of Christ and the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. Nothing else can achieve this.

It's not necessarily rubbish, it can be the work of the Devil. Demons can impersonate your late loved ones. We need to run, not walk away!
