Please leave it alone, the parents will feed it unless its contaminated with human smells, and it should cope fine as it's nearly fledged.

Just leave it - odds are the parents are still around and are feeding it.
Baby on the ground
If the bird has feathers, it is probably a fledgling. These are "babies" that are ready to leave the nest, but still need time to learn to fly well and feed themselves. The parents will take care of them on the ground as they learn to do these things. If the fledgling appears healthy otherwise, it should be left alone. Cats, dogs, and children should be kept away. If need be, the fledgling can be placed on a low branch or a bush for safety. Make sure to observe from a secure location. If the parents are not seen for 2 hours, or by dusk, one should call a rehabilitator.

A bird who can some what fly is called a fledgling, and usually it is learning how to fly and that is why its out of the nest. The parents are usually close by to fledglings to make sure they still get meals and to keep danger away.
My opinion is leave it alone, but make sure the parents are around first. If they aren't and you MUST take the animal out of its enviroment, there are a few steps you have to do before finding out what to feed it.
First find out what type of bird it is, in order to give it proper nutrition. Not all birds eat just seeds and insects, just like dogs eat meat and horses eat grass, they need proper care.
You can go online to see the many types of birds located in your area, but make sure you see baby pictures baby birds look like aliens compared to older birds.
They have to be fed a certain amount of hours per day, like a newly hatched baby has to be fed every hour on the hour from 6am to 9pm, they usually sleep with the comfort of their parents in the nest at nighttime.
Some states well most states it is illegal to keep baby birds without a rehabilitation license or wildlife license.
I would call a local Bird rescue and have them take it in.
Or find a vet clinic that does exotic pets, and see if you can leave it with them.
Taking care of a wild animal is very different from our domesticated pets. Even though its a bird......its a wild bird and they require much different nutrients and enviromental things, other than our domesticated birds.
IT IS NOT TRUE THAT A BIRD WILL ABANDON ITS YOUNG DUE TO HUMAN SMELL!!!

Baby birds eat worms and bugs. I remember an episode of the Andy Griffith Show in which Opie, Andy's son, accidentally killed a mother bird with his slingshot. Opie decided that he should raise the baby birds and act as their mother since she wouldn't be coming back because she was killed.
Andy helped Opie set up a birdcage to put the birds in so that they would not be hurt. Then Opie gathered worms and bugs from the yard for them to eat. He also figured out how to give them water. I think that he used an eyedropper at first.
You should get a cage for your baby bird and find an eye dropper. If you don't have one, you should be able to get one from the drug store. Tell them that you are taking care of a baby bird and you need a way to give it water. Also, you need to give the baby bird worms and bugs several times a day. When it begins to flap around in the cage, it should be able to return to the wild so when you see it doing this, take it out and try to set it free. It should fly away.
Remember that this baby bird is a wild animal and should not be handled too much because of this. Handle him to give him the bugs and the water, but that is all you should handle him. He should not be your pet. That is not fair to him.
As I said earlier, when he starts trying to fly on his own, take him out of the cage and see if he will fly away. If he does, you have done everything right. If not, the bird will be your pet. He should not be your pet.

Follow barry's advise on this. If you do not see the parent's within two hours then and only then should you intervene. To identify a baby, see my website: http://www.starlingrescueandcare.bravehost.com (also has links to other baby birds with pictures included). You will also find emergency care instructions as well as a care and feeding guide that applies to sparrows and starlings should it happen to be one of these.
Sincerely, Audra

I found a baby bird once.. i feed it bread mixed with water. I put it in a ziplock bag and cut a corner, so that i could squeez it in his mouth. You could also probably find insects like worms and little bugs and feed it that.

Leave it in the bushes near where you found it. The parents will take care of it, and it will be flying much farther by tomorrow.

you have to chew up some worms and spit it in the baby bird's mouth - just like the momma bird would do.
