While I agree that Christians who discuss politics from a biblical perspective need to be more aware of what changes occurred with the death and resurrection of Christ, I'd like you to consider a major difference between the recipients of the two testaments.
The recipients of the Old Testament were primarily a political group, a nation. Therefore, many of the laws written in the Pentateuch were to be applied in a political or national context. The recipients of the New Testament, however, were primarily local church groups who shared their epistles with other local church groups. They were all politically affiliated with the Roman Empire, so any legal-sounding commands would not have changed their political situation but mostly the private practice of individual Christians and local churches.
I believe this is why so many modern American Christians refer to Old Testament passages when speaking up about political issues. There's just more (quantity) in the Old Testament which lends itself to direct application in a political context.

They are politicians who will say anything to make their point at a given time. I would not put too much faith in what any of them say- they may or may not be interested in doing what God wants them to do- in fact, I don't think they consider God or His word at all. God is about truth and that contradicts their agenda. I think the worst thing the American people can do is be fooled that any politician is what they claim to be. Christians want to hope there is a Christian in the White House, and some even believe that those of us who think otherwise are being unpatriotic, or un-Christian. I say, men lie- let's don't get confused. God is perfect, Jesus was perfect- but men lie. I really get impatient with people who get confused about that distinction, and who can't see that actions speak louder than words. We need to see the writing on the wall, and it does not spell democracy, it spells greed.

Where did you get THAT idea?
I've been here for a long time, and just about every Christian I've run across denies the OT, especially when arguing about the issue of homosexuality.
Those that do not deny the OT know that they can't wear clothing made of two different types of material, can't eat shellfish and can't approach the altar of God if they don't have 20/20 vision.
I see it the exact opposite way as you do.

They aren't. Don't make a judgment that you can't prove. The only reason you make such a question is because the radical right wing party of America is in control of the United States. however, that is only a small fraction of the Republicans.
