I'm interested in enrolling in the Air Force JAG Program. I will be starting law school in Fall of 2007. I'm concerned about the financial aspects of paying for school. But, the AF website says they only offer tuition assistance for a few minority students and a small group of enlisted soldiers. I'm not currently enlisted.

Does anyone know if they offer scholarships to law school as part of their recruitment package?

If you are serious about it, another avenue is getting your commission first, and then applying for a Law Degree. This is true in the Navy, and I am pretty sure it would be the same in the Air Force as well. If you do a good job as an officer, you will get picked up for the program, go to school while on active duty and getting your normal pay, and the military will pay your tuition. In the Navy it is called a lateral transfer to the JAC Corps.

The AF is currently paying 100% tution assistance. Basically before you sign up for classes you have to go to the Education Office and have in writing what your education path is going to be. They will pay for everything you need except books. My personal situation is I laid out a education path to receive a degree in Criminal Jutice. With this they will pay for it all and you can change your path but that all depends on how far into it you are.

As far as college goes. I believe the AF has the best program. Its almost to the point that means its free you have to take classes. (Brownie points when it comes to getting rated and all that)

the way it works in the army is thus...You go to law school and get your degree, the army then signs you up to be a jag lawyer and will then pay back your tuition. However you then owe the army six years of your life. Is it worth is...well i couldnt say. That depends on what type of person you are.
