You never watched your mom cook. You mean you really don't know.
OK then>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
3 to 6 hours should do the trick, but make sure you use a really big pot.

That depends on how you like your eggs.
Soft boiled - the yolk is very runny and the surrounding white is loosely set 3-5 mins
Medium - the yolk is thick and the surrounding white is set solid 7-8 mins.
Hard boiled - both the yolk and the white is firmly set, cook 10-12 mins.
Start timing the cooking as soon as the water starts boiling.

I boil mine anywhere from 10-15 minutes because I don't like soft boiled eggs. I like to make sure mine are hard boiled. One other tip, to keep your egg from cracking while your boiling, take a push pin or a needle and poke a hole in the egg on the end where the "bubble" is.

At nine to 11 minutes they are boiled, however, if you let them cook longer, the yoke will turn green. It will not taste different, and it is safe to eat, but it doesnt look appetizing at all.
Try this- put just enough water to cover the top of the eggs, then start the heat, then at eight minutes, turn off the heat, cover the eggs and let them sit in the boiling water for about 5 more minutes. They will be easier to peel, and the yoke will be firm, but not overcooked.

I bring eggs to a boil and then lower heat until a slow boil. Then after ten minutes i remove from heat and cover for another 10 minutes. Then I rinse with cold water I also put some ice in water to cool them down fast.
