i mean there has been a un militry force in lebanon for more than a dacade now, with the tasks of peace keeping and disarming the hesbollah, but weren't able to achive any of their objectives...
i for instance didn't even know they were in the area untill today

The UN is not obsolete.
The UN is extremely useful in providing third world politicians swanky nights on the town in Manhattan.
And giving the Hezbollah tips on Israeli military positions.

i think they have ben obsolete since the USSR collaspe.
it is a huge money pit and in reality, no one really cares about them.
but what to expect? when have anann as UN president? he has really been the one to help make the UN as ineffective as possible.
plus, they became too involved in other countries regional and internal affairs.
the UN really needs to be revamped and defintly scaled down more.
you ever see the pay scale for these poeple? go take a look at it, it will amaze anyone.

There is a difference betwen obsolete and not being supported. If the major nations would pay their dues and provide more troops instead of asking if its obsolete, then it might work. It needs to work. Its the future we should all want to work. The alternative sucks more.

The UN is useless and corrupt. They criticize Israel but did nothing to prevent the Palestenians from firing rockets at Israeli civilians.
