Because that is one of the roles of the Holy Sprit. He comforts people(christians) and He guids them and gives them insight.

Jesus whilst his stay on earth was the comforter to the people. He said that God the Father will provide another after him 'Another Comforter'. Notice that Jesus referred to the new comforter as one who may abide with you FOREVER. Only a spirit can be forever with us, not any human being. And if you continue the verse to John14:17 "..(Another Comforter)the Spirit of truth, which the world cannot accept, because it neither sees nor knows it. But you know it, because it remains with you, and will be in you." Which clearly states that the new comforter is a spirit - one which you cannot see. Hence the new comforter after Jesus is the Holy Spirit, not another human being. And Jesus also didn't say that the comforter would complete the message of God hence Jesus teaching was the complete word. He is the alpha and the omega - the beginning and the end.

The very next verse explains it.
Joh 14:17 The spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, nor knoweth him. But you shall know him; because he shall abide with you and shall be in you.
The Holy Spirit, among other things, is the power and wisdom of God, made present any time and anywhere He wills it.
The Holy Spirit is the power behind every miracle.
Who wouldn't be comforted knowing that God's love, wisdom, and power would be with him and in him, always?
We know definitively that 50 days after the resurrection, and a mere 10 days after Jesus returned to heaven, the Holy Spirit did come.
He descended on the apostles and on the Blessed Virgin, as they were gathered in the upper room of the cenacle in Jersalem, on the Jewish feast day of Shauvot, which we Christians know as Pentecost .
The greek word which describes the Holy Spirit in this passage, and the one most Catholic Bibles prefer, is PARACLETE, which translates to ADVOCATE or HELPER, rather than comforter.
Using Paraclete instead of comforter tends to eliminate the problem we have with our Muslim brothers and sisters, who claim that this verse refers to the 6th century birth of Mohammed, their main prophet.
Yes, Muslims claim that Jesus is speaking about Mohammed in John 14:16.
The problem with their thinking is the fact that Mohammed wasn't a spirit. He was a man.
Mohammed doesn't abide with me and in me, either.
Mohammed also denies that Jesus Christ is the son of God, something the real Spirit of Truth would never do.
Finally, the Holy Spirit came to empower the apostles to recall all the things Jesus taught them, not to complete the message of God.
Jesus had already done that.

He called the Holy spirit comforter because the apostles were sad when Jesus said that He will not be with them for long. He told them that the Holy Spirit will be there to guide them and comfort them by taking away their sadness and help them to continue spreading the word of God!

You have taken your verse out of context:
"And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always,
the Spirit of truth, which the world cannot accept, because it neither sees nor knows it. But you know it, because it remains with you, and will be in you. "
Thusly completes it.
In certain way you COULD say that the Qu'ran completes the message with a legal system. However, some of it is brutal, especially to women. It returns Gods ideal system from the Gospel into a regulated human condition. We know that God prefered to give us freedom of will, so I expect you'll understand why freedom, to the extent it can be applied, is the highest goal of "western" civilization.
Wisdom:
Mathew 7:3-5
"Why do you notice the splinter in your brother's eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own eye?
How can you say to your brother, 'Let me remove that splinter from your eye,' while the wooden beam is in your eye?
You hypocrite, remove the wooden beam from your eye first; then you will see clearly to remove the splinter from your brother's eye. "
A double edged sword.

Jesus is describing one of the functions of the Holy Spirit (I.E.: to comfort). Remember, the apostles were getting ready to lose Jesus for good (since his death was imminent) and Jesus wanted to reassure them.
Since John was there listening to the words of Jesus as he said them, and you were not, I have to assume that John was telling the truth. We can speculate, but the bottom line is that we were not there, and John was. I will take his word for it.

A rose by any other name is just as sweet...what's in a name? We like to name things...the Scriptures chose to quote Jesus with these particular words...I for one have no problem with the terminology.

It's no different than if someone called you by another name, or used a differnt manner of speech to refer to you.
