How do you clean the interior? My guess would be the smell is caused from that not the car. If you go to a car wash tell them not to spray anything inside your car. Does the car have an order when you open the door? If so go to the dealer and ask to speak to the head of the service department and have them look into it.
Try using a Fabreze air cleaner to remove any old odors.

Wax? Thats interesting!!! Sounds like you might have something coming in from the outside vents. (Your air vents receive outside air from below the winsheild area) make certain you are not recirculating the air inside your car. It gets stale pretty fast and recirculating keeps you car cooler this time of year as the air does not have to be cooled as much. You can get deoderizer clips that go in the air vents and they work pretty well. If your car smells like wax it could be that you or someone who waxed your car got a wad of wax down in the vent area.

Put a bowl of apple cider vinegar on the floor of the car at night. It will neutralize the smell. Also, spray your upholstery with white vinegar.
