He is going to be a year old in August, 14 pounds (very small for this breed) and I was told no one would want to use him as a stud because he is so small.I paid almost $500 for him,he is beautiful solid black, very good personality and wonderful companion, very friendly and lovable, somewhat hyper, but all cockers are.Should I have him neutered or spend more money on a female and breed them myself, and take the chance of being able to seel the puppies?

I would also like to know if neutering him would make him calm down any?

At 14 pounds he is way outside of the breed size standard so why would you breed him? He is not a good example of the breed why pass that one. Even though he is a great pet there are hundreds of great pets who get put to sleep due to lack of homes why make more?
As far as neutering him it is better for his health. If you neuter him he will not get and enlarged prostrae and that can lead to cancer so if you are not going to breed for his health neuter him. Also he will be a clamer pet as he will not spend all this waking time "looking for love" and be much more focused on you and not roam seeking female companionship.

Have him neutered. You will spend much more than you make from selling the puppies. Are you willing & able to pay for the female, have them both tested for any problems that breed tends to have? Do you know that most people do not want a "black" cocker? What will you do with unsold puppies? Can you afford to keep them, feed them, keep shots updated? What if the female has problems during whelping, can you afford emergency surgery? Are you prepared to lose the female if a puppy is stuck & you haven't gotten help from your vet? Do you have the time and patience it takes to care for 2 dogs and 5-8 puppies for 8 weeks? If you ask yourself ALL these questions, I think you can come up with the right answer. Also, you know that your dog is NOT breed standard, yet you paid $500. You got ripped off and by breeding him & selling puppies, you will be ripping off your buyers & those that choose to do what you are planning to do will be ripping their buyers off as well.

Do you have any experience with breeding, raising & selling puppies? It's not as easy as one might believe it to be. If your boy is a good pet, just keep him as a pet - not breeding stock. While he is good natured now, this can change if he stays an intact male. You may not believe this, but cocker spaniels have been the #1 dog reported for dog bites for the past several years. Since he is a sweet. loving dog now, get him neutered and that personality will continue on.

I had a cocker spaniel and he or she used to be spayed at 8 years. Earlier than she had a thin wispy coat. After the spay her coat grew to be crazy thick. I concept it was once an improvement and even her groomer said it was like a exhibit coat, but it surely was once quite difficult to manage. So yes it is real it might influence the coat. While you spay or neuter you severely decrease the quantity of hormones in the body. Hormones manage close to every function within the physique so you are going to see some changes, including a reduced metabolism. Whether people wish to suppose it or no longer, it's a reality.

Please neuter your dog. People should pay that money to know that they got a quality animal (assuming it wasn't a puppy mill) and not because they think they'll get back triplicate when they breed. I volunteer at a no kill dog shelter and it would break your heart to see how many of those "I'll see if I can make a profit on puppies" end up in a kennel on death row because they weren't sellable. There are plenty of puppies in the world and too many dogs who want a home; please neuter your dog. If you bring a female in heat into that house with an unneautered dog, you will end up with more than 1 litter of puppies unless you keep them separated all the time.

It don't matter on how much you pay for your dog, all pets are priceless. If you are not sure if you can sell the puppies you should not breed, there are plenty of shelters out there that have animals that need to be adopted with out breeders making more. I think that you should neuter your cocker spaniel. It is better for his health, it prevents prostate cancer, and also will stop things like humping, marking there territory, running away, calms them down, and he might even put on weight. All my animals that I have ever fixed, male or female have plumped right out after being fixed.

Absolutely you should neuter him.

Don't bother breeding for puppies - there are thousands of Cocker Spaniels killed every year because there already aren't enough homes for them. Do you want to add more to that death toll in the name of making a few bucks? Is an animal's life that meaningless to you?

Before you decide to bring more puppies into the world, I ask that you go to your local animal shelter and walk the rows of cages. Look at the dogs in there and realize that at least half of them will be dead in a week. Every week. Multiply that by the number of shelters across the country. Then ask yourself if you can contribute to the overpopulation problem in good conscience.

HONEY Theres enough breeding going on in the world. It bothers me that ppl get a puppy with the intent tot breed have you been to your local animal shelter lately? Take a look at some of those animals. They are there due to ppl being irresponsible and not fixing their animals. Look into there eyes cuz today might be their last day of life. Nobody wants a Dog they all want puppies that's like throwing away or euthanizing our senior citizens just cuz a baby was born now how stupid is that. Perhaps if we started with your Grandparent or Parents you would see that I'm really not trying to be rude.(honest) I just want ppl to take more responsibility for these lack of actions.

LONG STORY SHORT NEUTER YOUR DOG!!!!!! PLEASE

NO dog should breed until it has gone to dog shows and proven it is an excellent example of the breed worthy of passing on its genetics - also all potential breeding dogs should be x-rayed and have their eyes checked by a vet first
you bought a pet not a breeding dog - for his health benefits you should neuter him - if you wanted a breeding quality dog you would have paid much more and gotten one from a repuatable breeder with both parents having good show records

do your doggie a favor and neuter him

I had a cocker spaniel and he or she exchange into spayed at 8 years. in the past she had a skinny wispy coat. After the spay her coat grew to alter into loopy thick. i assumed it exchange into an progression or maybe her groomer reported it exchange into like a coach coat, even with the undeniable fact that it exchange into quite complicated to regulate. So definite that's authentic it may influence the coat. once you spay or neuter you severely shrink the quantity of hormones interior the physique. Hormones administration very almost each and every function interior the physique so which you will see some alterations, inclusive of a decreased metabolism. no count if human beings prefer to have faith it or no longer, that's a actuality.
