I go to Walmart and change the oil in my jeep every 3000 miles. They put in whatever they have, I think it may be penzoil or quaker state, They change the filter and off I go. Should I be putting some kind of special oil in my vehicle or does it really matter?

Opinions on the best oil will vary greatly of course but the bottom line is that you change it along with the filter at regular intervals. And every 3000 miles or 3 months is a good rule of thumb to go by and follow the oil weight or viscosity recommended for your particular engine which may be on the oil fill cap,a sticker under the hood or in your owners manual.

As long as the oil manufacturer meets the S.A.E. standard that is listed in your owners manual it will be fine. Be sure that the correct weight oil is being used though (5w20, 5w30, etc).
Some people prefer different brands but you have the right idea by changing every 3000 miles - keep up the good work !

if you are going to keep the car for a few years then the oil quality matters a great deal, buy some Mobil 1 synthetic and ask them to put that in the car.

If you are going to change the car every 2 years with less than 50000 miles on it (as 70% of Americans do), then it doesn't matter too much

wlamart uses cheap oil called tech 2000 or something like that. it is o.k. to use as long as you change it every 3000. i personally would use a better oil though. just make sure it is always 10w30.

i personally use castrol gtx 10w30. it will cost you about 5-10 doollars more per oil change.

The owners manual will tell you the viscosity. Just make sure
the oil has an API symbol on it meaning it meets or exceeds
the requirements of the car maker.

It usually says in the manual what type you need. Some companies list that you should use your car manufacturer's oil, but you can use another oil (Usually listed as a certain Dextron number. Pennzoil makes dextron stuff).

Whoa!!! It matters a lot. Brand name no. Weight of oil YES!!
Read your owner's manual to find out if you use 5W30, 10W30 or whatever.
