The police can actually nick you for going too slow too. But generally speaking they are just cash making gadgets and nothing to do with safety. I think excise duty should be transferred to petrol as people do need to do less miles - especially the mothers taking the kids to school in their Chelsea Tractors. They hit a kid and they have no chance. I'd personally like to see petrol at £2 a litre, no income tax, decent pensions and a NHS we can really be proud of and healthy kids walking to school.

Actually, cameras are not for money, they are 100% for safety and police efficiency. I think if you check, the money paid for any ticket doesn't go to the police department, as that would be a huge conflict of interest.
As for points vs mileage, it shouldn't matter how far you drive. The state/country has to set a limit on what is considered unsafe driving, and an "error" every 3 months is not unreasonable. Remember that your driving affects everyone else out there too, and costs all the taxpayers money.

I would expect you to be a better driver as a result of your higher mileage, hence more than able to avoid clocking up the 12 points that a 3000 mile a year driver might.

Get up half an hour earlier (and go to bed half an hour earlier so get the same amount of sleep as normal) and then drive at the speed limit then you'll get to your destination on time (if not early - which is better than being late) and you wont have any more points on your licence and you wont have to pay the 'stelth tax' either!
A win-win situation.

Every state is different in how they figure out points on a license. As to fairness. Don't run lights that is why those cameras were put in. To get people to actually stop at the light rather than running the light.

They are not errors. They are the result of breaking the law and more importantly, getting caught.
