Cats (especially kittens) are very skittish animals. It takes time for them to warm up to you. Also, if you just got your kitten you can expect her to find a "safe spot" to hide in. (S)he will probably stay hidden for 1 to 3 weeks. You will notice your kitten coming out gradually, as she feels more comfortable in your home.

Cat toys are a fantastic idea. You are bonding with your cat, and getting some of its energy out... before it decides to play with your curtains & furniture and tear them up. My cats' most favorite toy was the feather on the stick. It looks like a small fishing pole with feathers at the end of the string. You can purchase it at most pet stores for a couple dollars -- I got mine at Pet Smart.

Cats are gluttons for attention. When you are watching TV, allow kitty to sit on your lap and pet her. They LOVE to be pampered!

Cat treats are good, but you may want to save them for rewards... like when potty training, etc... Also, you shouldn't give your kitten more than one or two at a time. Treats are richer than cat food and too many will make kitty throw up.

Despite what some people have suggested, NEVER give your cat cow's milk. Your vet will tell you the same. Milk is bad for cats, and makes them sick... at the very least it will give your kitten diarrhea. You don't want that... especially if your kitten isn't potty trained yet.

Basically, give your kitten time to feel comfortable, then spend as much play & cuddle time with kitty as you can.

Catch a bunch of kittens. Sew them into a nice long robe. Now anytime you want kittens around you just put it on. You'll be surrounded in kitteney goodness.

cay nip if you give it little at a time it will come around and show affection to get more. Again no sudden movements find a string to drag accross the ground as well see if it will chase it.

If they are wild, try putting out some milk and then just trying to pet them slowly. No sudden movements.

Well, Become more social with it. Buy it little toys like with feathers or bells. They like to chase things. With those it with learn to become more social. But if you play with him too much, he may start to bite or nibble on your finger. Unless you want it to bite you when you pick him up, I suggest a spray bottle filled with water. So if he nibbles on your finger spray him he with learn that he can't bite. Also when u approach it don't walk over to it. It will become scared of you. You have to become more of his level. Hope that helps!

When I first brought mine home I just sat near them and let them come to me. Then I would pet them, talk to them, things like that when they did come over. Now they won't leave me alone. ;-) Fine with me though.

You get on the floor and play with them and spoil them terribly.
BUT- it has its problems- I did that with mine and now they hover and are extremely needy, which can be cute but it wears on you!

if it is a stray it may take awhile...let them come at their own pace...also if you let them see you putting food into their dish they will certainly be coming around you every time you go near their dish...
