As far as Ive been made aware at nutrition college, the artificial sweeteners can cause a big problem. Even though they are being defended all over, the fact is they are artificial. Natural is always better.
Seemingly, the sweeteners can break down dangerously in liquid. I sorry i cant be more specific.
The other thing is that we may not have an established digestive process for these articial products and so our body doesnt quite know what to do with them, and then you have digestive upset.
Many people complain of pains in the stomach thru to the back after these drinks.
Is it worth the risk? 'They' say that these products will only be dangerous in large quantities, but if they are building up inside you then surely it wont be long before they become large.

I hate to tell you, but the High Fructose Corn Syrup used in regular sodas is more dangerous then the artificial sweeteners. HFCS has been linked directly to obesity, diabetes, and ADD. Artificial sweeteners have been studied for years with no conclusive evidence of any health risk.

Yes, I became diabetic in 1974 and was told to use Sacarin & Aspartame! After using asp, which is what is in 99% of diet sodas 5 yrs I started having seizures, now my prostrate is screwed up, I'm going bald, and memory? Oh I forgot! All these are things that Aspartame has been proven to cause in tests in Italy! I now use Stevia a natural herbal sweetener! Aspartame is totally banned in Japan but in America those guys kept up payment to polititians so it's legal here! There's a thing on my site that talks about Aspartame,

Actually I have heard a lot of negative information about diet soda and soft drinks in general. It can actually be detrimental to your health, and very addictive. I would say your aunt should maybe cut out soft drinks altogether. There are all kinds of conflicting stories to be found on the Internet, some of which I have pasted below. My personal source is a nutritionist that is a family friend. I'll take her word for it.
Fortunately I never liked them because they upset my stomach. Lucky me.

Some of the sweetners have caused cancers in animals when taken in large quantities....remember anything artificial is not good for you. Natural and moderation is better.

artificial sweetners are a lot sweeter than regular sugar. They make you crave sweets. When you are eating a sweet they also make you want more of it because you are used to how sweet the artificial sweetner is.
