Why do they defend their views with one verse quotes, without giving the background to the reader, it is becuase the people of the Church just believe the Pope instead of reading it for themselves, and if they do read it for them selves, they just say, "Well the Pope said it wasnt like that anymore" ok so they are beliveing a man over the Bible? They Contridict their Beliefs time and time again. Why? They do so many things against the Bible and still claim to be right, by saying oh that was only in the Old Testiment....answer me please!

I just got off of the Catholic Church Website! I read the reasonings behind their beliefs and that is exactly what they do. So Catholics do not believe the Bible to be the Word of God?

Do we really need to interperet the Bible or does it speak for itself, I think that is where many go wrong they try to make it something that it is not

I have to laugh at those here who think religion is just made up by man and thus is filled with contradictions and blatant hypocrisy. Then they turn around and offer an alternative: something made up by man and filled with contradictions and blatant hypocrisy! We live in a fallen world and man can only reap sinful things. This is why Jesus Christ (fully human, fully devine)came. To justify us before God through His sacrifice on the cross. And thus we can become sanctified, a process which allows us to become Christ-like and thus divine and holy. This is the teaching of the Church founded by Christ who is part of the Holy Trinity: Father,Son and Holy Spirit.

Honestly, that's what many churches do... I was born & raised Catholic, and remained in that religion for 15 years... I went through catecism, my communion, and my Quincenera. But I slowly started realizing that something was up. Not once did we read from the Bible, nor did I even catch glimpse of one. The only time I hear anyone read from it, was from the pulpit, and usually it was just a few verses picked from the priest for another to read.
I was NEVER taught anything in regards to it, and I wanted to know more... I started to look into other religions, and I was taught for almost a year by the Jehovas Witness, then two LDS/Mormon Missionaries came to our home, and left a video, and made an appointment w/ my dad. We continued to study with them, and the 5 of us were babtized!
I'm NOT trying to bash the Catholic church... I am sure there are many good people in that religion, but I have learned soo much more since being babtized into the Mormon church. I actually have my own set of scriptures. It's absolutely wonderful! :o)
Also... I agree with their beliefs a lot more than those of the Catholic church. Our beliefs are much stricter then theirs... Such as paying tithes, NOT worshipping any engraven images and such, we have no cross in our churches, no saints, or statues. The only things we have are paintings of Christ, and some from the Book of Mormon, and we have a Christus at our Visitors Centers, and the angel Moroni at the top of some of our temples.
But you are totally right about Catholics... many accept gays & lesbians, many have abortions, they have engraven images galore, and they do not speak much about tithes. I honestly don't understand that.

One could make a very good case that protestants, due to their own faulty and relatively recent faith traditions, allow themselves to make use of only about one third of all true Christian teachings and beliefs.
It's no wonder such people would have a hard time understanding things like sacraments, intercession, propitiation, atonement, the Mass, the church hierarchy, and much, much more.
The protestant view of Christianity is limited to only what appears in scripture, yet no where in scripture is that rule of faith to be found.
Following many different pastors, but lacking a true, God appointed earthly leader, just about anything passes for protestant dogma, even false traditions and outright fabrications.
And if you're not happy with your present flavor, don't worry. You have 20,000 more variations of protestant dogma to choose from! Just pick another congregation.
Catholic beliefs and practices are complete and uniform, just as they have always been.
The Catholic church, according to God's grace, has withstood the test of time as well as the constant attacks of Satan, and it will continue to do so, until time ceases to exist.
Who cares if some claim that God's original, and one, true church just makes things up?
On the day of judgment, all things will be revealed.

First, I am Catholic. Second, the Church does not contradict the Bible. I was a protestant and became a Catholic; I studied this for 6 months, so I know a little bit.
Your statement was vague... what beliefs about the Church are you referring to? Maybe then I can help.

The bible is one of the best books ever written. It tells a great story and is excellent for reading before you go to sleep. People have been arguing over that book for centuries. Some say that it has to be interpreted literally and others will say that it is an allegory to be loosely based on rules that we should follow. All in all, it is a great tool invented to keep the masses in line. It was written by men and men choose to use it as they see fit, as long as it works in their favor. Just take it for what it is, a halfway decent story. Live this life for yourself, no one else.

Welcome to the foundation of the Christain church: contradiction. My husband was raised very Christan, and as much as he wants to remain that way, the constant contradiction made him walk away. He now considers himself a scientist, and he does belive it is a religion, as do I.
All through the Bible it contradicts itself, and the way people interpert it contradicts the Bible. Even the Red Words clash with the other red words. Jesus was a pretty shady guy, he used anythign he could to convince people that God exists. When he was asked to explain his acts, he said "the ends justifies the means". So pretty much, he is gonna do extrodinary things and say they are of God just to make people belive in God.
The Bible says thou shalt not kill, yet is says eye for an eye. Differnt Bibles say differnt things too. Not all of them say thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. People change them to suit their beliefs, so Jesus's word isnt even in there anymore.
It irritates the crud out of me, has since I was 13.

Other than trying to bash Catholism...what exactly is your question? If you want to know more about the Catholic beliefs, go to any Catholic web site and read. You are looking for a specific answer here on YA in order to justify your contempt and dislike of Catholic teaching. If you are truly searching for answers to explain..go to www.catholic.org.

To answer your first question:
Everyone has his own interpretation of what The Bible says... That's why there is so many splittings in Christianity...
Catholic, Protestant, Baptism, Jehovah's Witness and more...
To answer your second question:
Yes, it seems that way....
The why question has the same answer as the first one...:
Own interpretation...
By the way:
I think The Bible we read today is already incomplete because of those who thinks it's better to leave things out...

I know of NO Catholics who talk like that. I know of NONE who quote the bilble and NONE who quote the Pope. Catholics are taught that the bible is a collection of speeches, writings and anecdotes, not the "WORD OF GOD".
Not sure who you are listening to but they are not very knowledgable Catholics.
