A lot of folks here say that they use the King James version of the bible, right?

Considering that the language of that text is often very different from what we use today, I am wondering why you would choose not to use one of the more modern translations.

I have found that I like the KJV better because it is more comprehensive. I find that the newer versions will leave out words for ease of understanding that actually can make some difference in the final meaning of it -- Also, if you think about all the times the bible has been translated and re-written, since the KJV is an older version it's probably more accurate than newer versions.

I personally enjoy the King James version, because it is beautiful language.

But I regularly use a more modern translation, specifically the New International Version. KJV is OK, but in the past few hundred years, scholars have learned more about the original Hebrew and Greek in which the Bible was written, so I belive that the modern translations are more accurate. The KJV contains some flat-out errors of translation.

You've heard the phrase, "lost in translation..", no doubt. If one does a translation from a previous translation, then another, much becomes lost. Like, "Thou shalt not murder" becomes "Thou shalt not kill" - two entirely different prohibitions.

Well, many newer "translations", or versions, suffer badly from this, especially those that are just "dumbed-down" reworkings of the King James version.

King James' version was not undertaken lightly, or without serious scholarship - it was a real attempt to get to an understandable rendering of the original thoughts.

Some more modern versions are rather attempts to rally the ill-educated to a particular point of view.

Most should be in black and yellow spiral bound, "The Bible for Dummies".

I use King James, NIV,NASB and I'm looking into getting a Hebrew or Greek Bible---- I don't have a problem understanding King James language it's not that hard to look up something in my bible dictionary--- or the bible concordance--- generally I am looking up what certain feasts mean or the meaning of someones name --- education is a continuing process --- the average American has more trouble reading the newspaper and from the last poll I read the newspapers are written at an 8th grade level....

Today we do have other versions of the Bible avalible, however the King James has been around alot longer. It was translated so that an average man way back then could use it ,too.

I prefer the KJV because I believe that it's translation of the original texts is closer to the truth than the more modern versions.

Christ said I change not. So that means cause times are changing His word still the same. I can only talk for the NIV. Most think its easier to read, well if thats the case why does it do away with words like, Christ, God, Son of God, Hell. It even leaves some scriptures out. It does more than changes the thee's and thou's.

i use to KJV b/c i was going back and forth between other versions of the Bible and a lot of the newer translations have taken things out, epecially the NIV.
