This is all true, and a very good question. I know that women are to cover their hair as it is seducing to not have it covered, goes back to the Nephilim (kind of like giant angels or the fallen angels I believe) mating with human women in Genesis. They were tantalized by the human women's beautiful hair. So God told women to cover their hair.
I am a Christian and I look forward to reading some of your answers, as this truly is an excellent question!

Some Christian groups do practice the covering of heads for women. Those who do not usually will use 1 Corinthians 11:14,15 as their reason. It says there that a woman hair is given to her as a covering, so if she has hair, her head is covered. Refer back to verses 5 and 6, where is speaks of shaving her head being the same as uncovered.
Finally verse 16 says to the Corinthians that its not worth fighting about, because there is no such custom (covering the head) in the other churches.

This is talking about the end days. A women should be covered with the word of God. You for got to keep reading..
1 Corinthians 11: 10For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels.
The angels are the fallen angels that are cast out at the end days.
Also read 1 Corinthians 11:11Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord.
Key words: "...in the Lord"
Grab the subject, it is in verse 3.

Present-day Christians think this pertains to the time and the cultural environment of the Apostle Paul, who was giving his personal opinion (something he did quite a bit), so they feel free to ignore it. Too bad they don't ignore the other examples of this. Like his personal distaste for homosexuality, for example.
Those who insist that the WHOLE Bible is true and inspired should be consistent and cover their heads while they pray. OR they follow what Corinthians says next and shave their heads!!

The covering your talking about is the hair of a woman the scripture bears it out by saying her hair is given to her for a covering! Your mistaken about Christian women alot of other women are not even taught these scriptures by there pastors and other think in is legalism yet others are taught these scriptures and embrace them as being Biblical truth! I know of a Body of believer's who do embrace these teachings and are Christian.

In this letter to the Ephesians from Paul,in the 11th verse he used their common traditions as an example to support the need for spiritual direction in their christian community. The first being the head covering and how it related, back then, to the headship arrangement(the woman being in subjection to the man, the man being in subjection to the Christ, and Christ in subjection to Jehovah) . The second was and illustration of the Lord's Evening Meal in comparison to how they needed to come to prayer in a spiritually clean manner.

It shows headship for the head of the household which is the spouse or if you are in the presences of someone else's home and thier husband is present you are to cover your head. Or, any man that you are teaching. If there is no other Spiritually Qualified Brother there.

I think its taken out of context... you have to get the full picture, given the complexity covered in some studies on this letter. Unfortunately, I'm no Bible guru and have no answers for you.

Hello Sugarcane, I cover my head when I pray.... That is one of the teachings we receive through the word. Our pastor takes it a step further to say that some say that their hair is their covering and He corrects by saying it is your beauty not a covering. By the way I am pentecostal that follows the apostles teaching which was directly taught by Jesus Christ

Your avatar looks like it needs to cover it's head. LOL Just kidding. That's one of those things that most people agree don't apply to today's believers. You know, like slavery instructions, that you can also find in the bible. Surely, you don't suggest we follow those too. Didn't think so.
