Which is the best would depend on the money you wish to spend. The cheapest ones (around £20-£30) only have a single tuner. This will not allow you access to more than one channel at a time. For example you cannot watch BBC1 and record ITV1 at the same time.

Features to look out for are a hard drive (the larger the better). This will allow you to record directly to the freeview box without needing tapes, DVD discs, etc. You also need a twin tuner so you can watch one channel while recording another. You can even record one channel on the hard drive while recording another to a video or DVD recorder.

If you have a Netto store near you, they are getting some 80gb hard drive twin tuner freeview boxes in over the next few days for £100. This should do everything you want it to do for a reasonable price. I think it will record something like 40 hours of programming directly to the player, plus unlimited output to DVD or tape.

I hope this helps.

If you can get a GRUNDIG box - they have really good tuners, otherwise, just buy the cheapest....

There is one by Sagem that allows you to pause live TV and record programs because it has a hard disk in it.

Also have you ever heard of the word please
