If you like arts and animals, I have some spots for you. The Atlanta Zoo is fabulous -- all natural habitats and beautiful. Piedmont Park and the Atl. Botanical Gardens are a very inexpensive way to spend a sunny day and they are very close to the High Museum. Check with the High; they used to have a free admittance day once a week, either Weds. or Thursday. and they are on the MARTA rail line so you don't have to drive.

You can listen to music for free in Underground Atlanta -- they always have a band playing there.

Stone Mountain is a must see and a very cheap way to spend a day.

The neighborhoods of Virginia-Highlands and Little Five Points are great to walk around in -- mixture of old architecture and new stores and restaurants.

Go to the Atlanta Constitution's (city newspaper) website to find more. Have fun!

Everyone else's answers are good so far. I would also include the Fernbank Museum and Science Center. If you go to the Science Center at night, you can view the constellations through the giant telescope. Also, at the museum they offer "Martinis and IMAX"......on Fridays they host this event where you can mix and mingle, enjoy live jazz, have a martini, and afterwords see an IMAX film. It's all on their website which I provided. As for restaurants, check out accessatlanta.com and you won't be lacking for choices!
