Backup them up before reinstalling Windows!

If you simply reinstalled your windows xp software disc,over the top of the one you were running,the files all remain.I did this recently to get the faster version of xp-(providing you are connected to the internet at the time).The only way you will have lost anything is if you deleted xp home first.If you want to try to recover files --www.officerecovery.com/freeundelete/

before resintalling, you should backup all ur files, burn them into a CD or move to other disk (ex D drive) or even another computer or remote site. Then reinstall only C drive (dont partition ur drive)

Xp has backup tools in Start/Programs/Accessories/System tools/backup

reinstalling windows is a complicated process!! but yes you can save your other files by not deleting your old partition but just creating a totally new one
