way of thinking, rather than smiting them?

As a general response, as I am not a Fundie Idiot, one does not call on God to change peoples minds because when we were created God gave us all Free Will. People can pray for another to be enlightened or to soften another heart. I personally do not smite anyone, but I will admit that there are some posts that do just that, and it is wrong. So, apologies to you and whoever else my have been smitted, as that is not what a Christian should be doing. Fundie Idiots might though :)

The real reason? Well, probably because they know prayer won't do anything, so they take it upon themselves to be jerks.

The reason that'll most likely be given? Free will. For some reason, fundies think that God did us all this great favor by giving us free will. We have the freedom to choose to live a lifestyle that'll earn scorn, pity, and sometimes violence from his followers.

I'm still not sure why free will is supposed to be a gift. God loves us so much that he'll do nothing to prevent us from going to Hell? Puh-leez. I love my nephew. I love him so much that I would restrict his free will and not let him jam a fork into an electrical outlet. Or am I supposed to be as compassionate as God and let my nephew fry?

The concept of free will granted by an omnipotent, benevolent god is hogwash. God would be more effective if he actually smote people. It converted people in the Old Testament.

I don't know any "Fundie idiots." All the fundamentalists that I have met are very intelligent and wise beyond their years.

The Christian Fundamentalists that I know are constantly studying not only the Bible but other works on the subject. They typically have mid-week Bible studies as a group in addition to Sunday worship and teaching and smaller group studies. Plus they usually are delving into one book or tape series or another, always looking to learn more.

No, I don't know any "Fundie idiots" at all.

Because he's not real, and they are afraid to test him out, knowing that they have all prayed for things, and got NO results. In a scientific experiment, it would be easiliy proven that there is no god, after testing the effectiveness of prayer as a basis for the burden of proof. Try it at home, kids. It's a safe experiment that you don't need help from an adult with. Thundercats....Hooooo!!!

mmm God smites people like yourself because they are arrogant and self righteous and want to tell God how to run HIS kingdom.
God does as he will and he lifts up the HUMBLE. I see no humbleness in this question. Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord and he will lift you up. God only smites those that refuse to change and HE is the one who decides, not the Christian. The Christian only warns that it is coming..

Luke 3:7 Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

I WILL TELL YOU THAT GOD IS TAKING PEACE FROM THIS WORLD if you want to listen then listen.

Rev 6:4 And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.

What good would that do? Smiting just means there is more hostile feelings, and thats stupid. How does that help the cause?

They do - what do you think they are meaning when they say "I'll pray for you"?

I've been told several times that someone would pray for me that God would enlighten me as to the "true way" or something like that.

For example: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/;_ylt=AkboNbBgJskZH0WOyusD0C4ezKIX?qid=20060726073258AAjEALH

Usually when I ask, "Is it okay if I then pray to Apollo to show you that your beliefs are wrong?" they get upset. I can't imagine why - isn't that exactly what they're doing to me?

Nice, as a Catholic, I tend to think of myself as more moderate than 'smiter-r-us" that many fundamentalists come across as. For people who believe in a lving and caring God, they sure do a lot of prejudging and condemning.

For the non-understanding person(s) - that answer is quite easy? --- If You were to grasp Self-Will and Our Fathers will, then maybe you to can seek these answers on your own instead of trusting another human being's response...
