My daughter is 4 months shy of being 2 years old. She still sleeps in her crib, and has never tried to climb out of it either. I wondered the same question you're asking myself.

However, my daughter was a 1 pound preemie, and is much smaller in size than the average child her age. (she still doesn't weigh enough for a front facing car seat) Because I am fearful that she'll hurt herself in a toddler bed, it will be a while before I remove her from the crib.

I agree with the rest of the answers that you shouldn't rush it and make sure your child listens to directions and order before giving her the freedom of the 'big girl bed'. Otherwise, she may be roaming all over the house while you are still sleeping, getting into things that may harm her without your knowledge. Don't let others guilt you into moving her, just do what you think is best, and when you feel she is ready. If it bothers her to still be in a crib, consider a move. If she's still in diapers, and comfortable, just let her be and enjoy the 'power of containment' before she's running all over the place. lol

Best of luck to you and yours.

Everyone told me not to put my child in a toddler bed until they were able to climb out of the crib. My child never did that but he did begin not to sleep well in the crib. I ended up putting him in a toddler bed on his 3rd birthday. The crib became to small so to speak. He needed more room to sleep and roll around in.

My daughter never tried to climb out of her crib either, but she became totally disenchanted with it right before she turned two. She would pitch a raging fit whenever we would put her down at night, so that was our cue to move her into the toddler bed.

I agree with one of the other mom's answers who said don't do it too early and that is true, when they are too young, they don't understand the concept of staying in the bed when you put them there.

I think between 2 or 2 1/2 is a good time to start.

Good Luck.

A good age to be out of the crib is if your ready 18 months up to 2 years. I think a child over the age of 2 shouldn't be in a crib. It's time for them to have independence by that age.

A toddler bed is a nice stepping stone to a twin bed, as it's lower to the ground, and more "toddler sized". It helps allow your toddler to get used to sleeping in a bed that she can fall out of, how to get in and out of her bed on her own, etc.

My oldest was in a toddler bed at 2, when we moved from one side of the state to the other. I didn't feel it was neccessary to re-set up the crib.

My middle child was about 2 when he got moved to one, again, because we moved at the time.

My youngest was the only one who got moved into one without a move involved (from houses, I mean). She was closer to 3 when she got swapped into one, and that was mostly because her crib had been through 3 kids, and was getting wobbly.

Basically, move your daughter into when you feel she is old enough to know that bed time means staying in bed. We tried moving our youngest when she was just shy of being 2, and she didn't stay in bed at all, so we added the side bar back to the crib (it was a convertible crib), and waited quite a while longer. We tried that over several days, we just realized she wasn't ready.

My baby started crawling out of her crib around a year and a half of age. When I first put her in the toddler bed, she didn't like it much, and kept getting up. It took a while to get her to stay in bed.

my daughter never tried to climb out of the crib, and we moved her into a toddler bed around the age of one and a half. it was too early! i promised that with my son i would wait longer! I would say around two or so. It's just too hard to get them to stay in their toddler bed, especially if they are too young, they won't really understand why they have to stay in the bed, when they can get out of it whenever they want! good luck!

I normally move mine over around age 2-2.5. About the time they can follow directions, like "Stay in bed" they are ready for a toddler bed. Until they will lay down and stay laying down, I don't let mine out of the crib.

i think i could first attempt the bumpers lower back. In my son's crib, the bumpers bypass down exceedingly a techniques, so purely area of the bumper pad is definitely showing. he's by no ability tried hiking them and my wager is that if he did, it may in basic terms kinda sink in. relies upon on the bumper pad you have although. With my stepson, we placed him in a infant mattress at 18 months or so. We constantly placed a pair pillows or a bean bag next to the mattress in case he fell out...he by no ability did although. And he's a loopy sleeper, he's everywhere! i could say you need to attempt a infant mattress and notice the way it is going too. sturdy success! =)

Usually the toddelr bed is introduced around the second birthday, but for the most part is a decision you will make based off of need and interest.
