Key word in this question is "purchasing" . You must first determine weither you plan on buying using credit or your savings, ie, cash. And then you must be determined to buy as much serviceable car as you can for your credit dollars or cash dollars. Just because you are using "the future" credit is no reason to lavishly or beyond your means or needs. The cost of a car is pretty much determined by age and obvious condition. Price standards per year are published and are readily available. So it is your responsibility to be informed before purchasing and to negotiate for the right and fair price. So age is not so much important, as it is a factor. #2, Mileage is a factor in determining the price, and a valuable measuring tool, if the car's age is anywhere from 1 to 5 yrs old. After that a car's mileage, I believe, is not so important as the car's condition ; how was the car maintained and what type of service has it been used. Also does anything in the car indicate heavy use, when the mileage shown is low. Dealers and sellers of autos have a bagful of tricks to confuse the buyer concerning the mileage on a car. You must be aware. But follow your instincts, be auto savvy and if you feel that you are not sure, have a qualified expert or a reliable knowledgeable friend check out the auto before buying. And then look at the car. I say to you. Look. A car must start, run and stop and be safe. Is the ignition system in good order, battery, etc. Is the Motor in good shape, not covered with leaking or blowing oil, or leaks on the ground or strange engine noise when the engine runs. and are the brakes in good working condition and lastly the lights and tires. Are they in good shape. Yes, mileage on a car can be a guide as to the price you are willing to pay for the used vehicle, but the condition of the machine is a better indication of how well you may spend your money. In my opinion, many a good car goes off to the salvage lot for the hindrance of being a hi-mileage vehicle.

See the situation you need to make purely relies upon on the way you will shield the motor vehicle. an average individual places as much as fifteen,000 miles in line with year. whilst your going to purchase a automobile, evaluate the mileage, and do the mathematics. Whats maximum mandatory approximately procuring a automobile with something over 50,000 miles is a sturdy warrenty which will hide the motor vehicle for no less than the quantity of time you intend on conserving it for.

older with lower miles, but it also depends on the car. Older foreign cars are more expensive to fix. Newer car with higher miles probably means that it was used alot and had a lot of stress put on it.

lower miles is more important.

For example, you can buy a 2002 toyota with 100,000 miles for 4,000 and it may last you another 100k, or 10k depending on how it was maintained.

On the other hand, you can buy a 1979 Ford with 30,000 miles and it can be like new for $4,000 and chances are it will last you a long time.

Me, I am looking to buy an older car with lower miles, ecause that is what I want as well.

The miles because when you buy a second hand car even if the model is 2006 the miles can be high and that means the engine would be ridden rotten.

They must be used togather. A car that is 2 years old with 100000 miles means that is been over driven. A car that is 20 years old with 100000 miles means i been used sparingly. A ration can be developed to see how much abuse and use the cars has been through.

mileage definitely provided further the car is not very very old. If very old, the metal/body will be affected very soon and availabilty of spares/service may be a problem. However, mileage determines the wear and tear due to use.So, less the mileage, better is the vehicle and also better will be the re-sale value.

Both need to be considered. Older cars will have problems with parts due to age (belts will be dry rotted, parts may be harder to find), but you also will have problems with high mileage cars. Keep looking, and you will find a great deal!
