and she won't stop! she and my older chi both have the same food; kibble and bits mini bites since they're small dogs. the cat has his food in a totally different room. yet even though she knows where her food is, when she's out she'll dart into where the cat's food is and stuff her face! is this normal??? and even though i AM trying to get her to eat HER food, is it okay is she sneaks the cats or will his food be bad for her in any way??

Some dogs LOVE cat food, and there's no changing that.
Dog food has the proper nutirents for DOGS, and the same goes for cat food and cats.. won't hurt your dog, per se, but the lack of proper nutrients can.

What I did when I had this problem was move the cat food in the basement, and put an extra long hook lock on the door to give enough space for the cat to get to the food, but not the dog.

Other option, although some see it as gross, is to put your cat food on the countertop.

Cats require much more protein than dogs, so their food is much richer and that is why dogs like it so much. There are no immediate health concerns, although she can gain weight much more quickly on the cat food, which can be a big concern with chihuahuas. The best thing to do is keep the cat's food up high so that the dogs cannot get it.

Cat food is not good for dogs to eat. My vet told me that there is a chemical in it that can make dogs go blind. I put my cat food up so the dogs can eat it. But, depending on what you're feeding the cats, it's might be better for the dog then Kibbles and Bits. That's the equivlent of feeding a child Snickers bars for every meal. (not the yummy taste, just the crap that's in it!)

No it is not good for him cats/kittens need a lot more protein and other minerals and vitamins than dogs do. Try mixing the kitten food and the puppy food, it could be he just likes the dish the dog is using, cats are fussy critters, it is part of what makes them so irresistible! Or you could try putting the puppy food in the kitty bowl and visa versa so you can se if it's the dish or the food.

Cat food has different nutritional properties then dog food and it contains Ash which is not healthy for dogs. Also cat food is higher in fat and protein that will make your dog sick as well.
You should put the cats feeding dish on a counter or on a stand were only he can reach it. my sister had this problem. she took her cat climber set up and added a ledge big enough for the cat to eat on and sit comfortably.
Hope it helps

Cat food is not good for dogs. You need to put the cat food in a higher place or teach your puppy not to go into that room whatsoever. Make sure u watch your puppy and don't let him eat the food. It will not hurt your puppy right away or anything, but it's not good for her. Good luck.

She does not like her food. Cat food will give her loose stool. Try a better food. Royal Canin for small breeds. Petsmart carries it...

No it is not ok. Cat food contains taurine, an amino acid which cats cannot produce. Dogs can produce this amino acid. If your dog eats cat food, she is getting excess amounts of taurine, which can cause her to become sick.
