Getting it neutered might help but it sounds like you could do with some training.

This is a common characteristic of the Boston Terrier. They love their people so much that even the *best* behaved of them still has trouble not jumping around when you come home. (Or when company comes over.) Something you should have been informed of before you brought him home, I dare say. It's hard to change the very nature of a dog. It's one of the very first things that I tell my clients about the breed.
However, now that he's there, you will need to either get used to it and *try* to think of it in terms of the joy it brings to your son, or go through some training to teach him to stop doing it. Believe me, the first option would be *much* easier with a Boston in this respect, and I'm only being honest.
I would really suggest crate-training him. You can do this at any age. The crate will not only keep him safe and out of trouble while you are gone, but it will restrain him when you come home. When you come in, do not talk to him or pet him. Wait for him to settle down before you let him out of the crate. By the time they come out, they forget about the running/leaping ritual, and pretty much go back to "normal". (As 'normal' as it ever gets with a Boston...) When you do let him out, pet him and love him up, and then let him go about his business. (Like going outside to go potty or whatever.) This has always worked with my Bostons.
Whatever route you choose to take, just remember, patience and a sense of humor are the most essential qualities in a Boston Terrier person. Best of luck to you!
Edit: Oh, and by the way, it is *always* best for them to get them fixed, male or female. If you do it now, you may prevent him from developing life-long bad habits. For one, he will be less likely to start "marking" in the house. You will also save him from wanting to run away to find a mate. And, from getting certain kinds of cancer later in life. It's a safe, quick procedure and they're up and running again in a couple of days. It's not all that expensive, either. Well worth it in the long run.

Getting him neutered may reduce his activity level but training will get the behavior you want. Say you want him to sit 10 feet away while you're coming in. Put a small rug there and teach him "rug" means go to the rug. Just say the word, lead him there and give him a treat. After a while this will be easy for both of you. Now, start saying "rug" when you come in and make him go there and give him a treat and praise. Eventually, he'll get good feelings about going to the rug because he knows he'll get pets and maybe treats.

The keeps doing it because he is getting rewarded for it by your son (attention). If you the dog stops getting the payoff, he will stop doing it. You may have to show the dog that he gets treats if he gets down, but the combination of not rewarding the dog when he gets on the couch and rewarding him when he gets off should make the action go away.

Your dog is excited to see you. One thing that will help is to make sure he gets plenty of exercise. You and your son could take him for a walk after you get home. I, too, have a terrier and terriers are VERY hyperactive dogs. My dog is neutered, but he's still got energy to spare. You need to exercise him which will naturally calm him down.
