Well, the Bible teaches us that teachers are to be judged harsher than others because they hold the minds and hearts of many. That certainly applies to this case.
I don't think the Vatican thinks its okay to cover up child molesting in the church. In fact, the Vatican and local parishes have proven more often than not to be very supportive of legitimate criminal investigations.
Exceptions? Sure, and those are the ones that make the news. And for many years such things were handled inside the church primarily because there weren't any laws that could really apply. Now things are coming to light--time will tell for sure.

Let's see. There are priests that molest children. The church covers it up by moving them around as soon as trouble starts stirring. They pretend it isn't happening. The media suddenly makes a big deal about it even though everyone knew this was going on forever. The church still pretends it isn't happening even though it knows it is. The priests continue to molest children and the church continues to move them around as soon as trouble starts stirring.
Sounds pretty systematic to me.

Christ has a little problem with people who hinder the children who come to Him. Priests molesting them in a place they believe is a house of God will hinder them coming to Christ. Will they receive judgement..ooooh yes.
The RCC is based on pagan beliefs that blended in with Christianity, and it is no surprise that they keep the vile and not try to flush it out as other denominations would.

I...NO OFFENSE....personally think that the Vatican SUCKS....sorry to say...but how could one preach one thing and totally do the opposite of it???...to me its asinine and insane!!!!! Its I'mmoral and if they uphold such things and do as if its nothing, then...im sorry to say but there's no hope in them...what is the world coming to???...since when the hell did it become okay to have sex with the acolyte boys???? this makes me sick....Honey if these priests don't repent in "sack cloth and ashes", they would be judged just as any other wrong doer on that day...the good ole BOOK says so..hope this help...good day..

they just didn't want all those scandals to help people realize that "god" is not real, and therefore does not require any titheing or other donations as much as the priests need a free ride. bums mostly, with a few exceptions, I'm sure.

The Catholic church is as much a political entity as a religious entity. They fear loss of attendance and power if these things come to light.
...fortunately, they have come to light nonetheless

Those "priests" are no higher or closer to God than we are, and God expects the same out of them as he does the rest of us.
