I am told I will probably go to jail for about two weeks starting tommorrow....what will happen...will they handcuff me and shackle me in the courtroom in front of everyone or will they wait till I am outside away from people...I don;t want to be embarrassed.

Also, can I request to only be handcuffed in front, cuz behind the back causes me to be in a lot of pain because they always draw the cuffs way too tight and it hurts me when i have to sit with the cuffs behind me.

I guess that it depends on the jurisdiction that you are in. From what I've notice in the US, unless you are unruly, they are likely to have you cuffed in front, possibly connected to a chain that goes around your waist locked from behind. It's movement restrictive, but they aren't overly uncomfortable. They may also use leg irons, but that's designed primarily to limit your speed if you try to make a run for it. (No long strides.) If you are cooperative, they may wait to restrain you outside of the courtroom as the primary point is for standard prisoner transfer and not for public show.

The key thing is not to fight it. That only makes things worse as they may have to be forceful. Also, it's a good sign that you are being "rehabilitated", which does go a long way in jail.

If you're found guilty then the whole purpose of the process is to embarrass you. The way the procedure is carried out depends which country you're in, in England the guards come and escort you out of the stand and down to the cells where you wait for the prison wagon to come and pick you up.

Unless you're considered a danger to those around you I don't think you'll be handcuffed before being taken to the cells, a two week imprisonment doesn't sound like you'd be considered very dangerous.

It depends upon where you are and whoever happens to be working that day. I do think it's standard procedure to be handcuffed, but they probably won't shackle you. I'm not sure what you did, I hope it doesn't happen again. Good Luck, I'll keep my fingers crossed that they don't even end up sending you to jail. Unless you did something really bad, then you need to do your jail time.

it really all depends on where you are some times they will hand cuff you in the court room and others will take you to the door and once behind it the will hand cuff you. sorry about that hope this helps.

just deserts (or the penalty to suit the crime )its not easy at the top is it ? ......... if you are to be incarcerated (locked up ) yes as you see it in all the cop shows but if you have a lawyer and appeal the conviction normally in australia the sit you in the court room till the paper work is printed up and bail you on your own recoginance to your next apperance over here we have a county court you first appear a a magistrates court

as i understand it, its a judgement day for you tomorrow

hmm depends on the strength of evidences laid down before the court, and how articulate your lawyer had defended you in the entire hearing process

the scenario can be a happy one for you because you have proven that you are innocent

otherwise, it will be like you treated like a criminal

Don't worry, they're just going to publically whip you. Really.

Seriously, who cares what a bunch of other criminals think, lol.
Good luck.
