I'm not a big fan of broccoli either. I will eat it however if I add some cheese to the top of it and melt it over the broccoli. That is an awesome way to drown out the taste. Also, I'm trying to lose weight so cheese may not be the right choice for me so I've also found that a little soy sauce or teyaki sauce over the broccoli makes it taste great. Try a few things that you do like to put on top, perhaps some butter. Also another idea is to mix it up in the other food that goes along with the meal just to get it in there. Such as mashing some up into the mashed potatoes. Little things like this will help give Nigel his veggies.

"Omnivore," of course, means "all eating." Now, tell me, is there some food that human beings eat that you will not eat? For example, I know that maggots are considered to be a yummy, yummy taste treat in some Mexican villages. Would you eat maggots? I wouldn't! Then, there's this really (supposedly) healthy thing that, even for the Japanese, is an acquired taste: Natto. It's slimy, mucousy, stringy, and vile. I've tried it, but only once. It's really NOT my thing!
Some people just plain don't like broccoli. Our current President's father was infamously aversive to broccoli--to the point that it was a national joke, back when HE was President.
I've always liked broccoli, even when I was a little kid. (I used to call them "trees.") So it's difficult to suggest to you ways that it can be made more palatable to someone who just-plain-hates the stuff. Sometimes putting a cheese sauce on it does the trick.

Some people just don't like certain veggies, and broccoli may be one of the veggies that your Nigel (son, husband or boyfriend...you did not say). Some people who do not care for the taste will eat it if it is covered in a cheese sauce...sometimes a bit of a disguise goes a long way. When my children were younger I would also put pieces of veggies they did not care for in the blender, blend them fine, and add that mixture to spaghetti sauce...not enough to overpower the sauce, but enough to bring up the vitamin and mineral content. Sometimes as a Mom, you have to find your way around some of these culinary problems. Some people who do not like broccoli cooked will eat it raw with a dip, or visa versa. Best of luck to you! Have a great day!

Make it into soup.
Recipe:
Istick celery
1 onion
Head of brocolli
1 clove garlic
Chicken stock
Finely chop the celery garlic, onion, and all the stalk of the brocolli.
Saute this in a little olive oil, add boiling stock, or boiling water and a stock cube.
Simmer for 5 minutes, add the remainder of the brocolli, and simmer for another 2 minutes
Zap with a hand blender until smooth
Stir in some fresh cream and put into a bowl
sprinkle some grated cheese on the top, and serve with crispy garlic bread.
In my experience children love the taste of garlic, and they don't know that they are eating brocolli

Well, cover with a sauce, like tomato sauce or pasta sauce... I'm sure kids like pasta! They might not like this idea, but maybe pureeing the broccoli and incorporating it into a sauce may work? You make sure they lick the plates!

Many kids don't like the mushy texture of veggies. I would suggest cooking the broccoli in a nonstick pan (yep, no pot at all) with some olive oil and don't cook it down...leave some crunchiness. And of course, add cheese, please.

Because you make too much fuss about it and he is bloody minded - like most kids. Tell him he is not allowed to eat and it is only for grown-ups and he will be stealing it raw from the larder when he thinks you are not looking.

Leave the kid alone and serve him an alternative, it's not the end of the world if he doesn't eat it. My kids would never eat any veggies now they are older they eat them all EVEN THE DREADED SPROUTS!!

I'm confused. Your question contains a double negative, so you are really asking why he does eat it.
If he doesn't eat it then it's probably because he doesn't like the taste.
