The answer is in verse 10: But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.

Don H - You said: "No Jesus could not forgive something that was not real.
Sin, the idea that God could ever be displeased with you because of something you had done, did not exist when Jesus died, nor does it actually exist now."

I disagree with that (in a friendly, non-aggressive way). I think the concept of sin was around long before Jesus, as I believe that Abraham addressed the issue in the Old Testament. I do know that the concept of displeasing God was mentioned a LOT in the Old Testament. Just my opinion - I loved your answer though.

YES, and the reason why is because sin is originated from satan. The serpent tricked and caused men to sin, and he still does even today... on the cross Jesus died for our sins, and when we believe in Him, we are forgiven. When Jesus died, after 3 days, God raised Him from the dead!! so Jesus defeated death itself and defeated satan!! Jesus is the only one who has authority to forgive sins.

So Jesus had authority, since He is God and is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow, so even before He died and was ressurected He had victory over the devil.. Also christians who have jesus living inside of them have the authority to forgive sins, because it is jesus through us that has authority!

God bless :)

Don H is wrong, sin is real and that was the reason God sent his son to us, for forgiveness of our sins so that we could have eternal life with Jesus

Of course He can forgive sin. That is why he came to earth in the form of man, to pay the price for sin. So iif He paid the price why would He not have the right to be able to forgive it while He was here.

He is the only one that can.
God is a God of the LAW, and he will judge by the LAW.
Christ can remove all the time you broke the LAW from you, so that before God you appear as thou you never broke the LAW and are sinless before him, and will not be judged to death.
