download microsoft office 2007
and copy and paste it into there to edit

Not knowing what kind of error you are getting, I can only guess...

Try opening the current notepad document, highlighting everything, copying it and pasteing it into a new notepad document and see if you can edit it.

If not, please add detail about what kind of error you are getting.
